Wow a lot of people here seem to have forgotten the shit Ewon has been through since he was abandoned by his mother. If I started ranting about how nonsensical it was for the mother to abandon Ewon just because she wanted to start a life with the man who was Ewon's father, I wouldn't be able to stop. He finally found some stability in his life after filling the hole left in his heart with Mookyul. So what? His father dies, his mother becomes suicidal so he suddenly has an obligation to a sister that was never a part of his life because of "familial" ties? That sounds like bullshit to me. It's quite clear that he cannot really live without Mookyul. Additionally, Mookyul fulfills the emotional, mental and loving aspects of his life which his biological family never gave him. I think Ewon did the right thing by setting up his sister financially and leaving them to fend for themselves.

I don't see how Mookyul is spoilt for not wanting Ewon to have anything to do with a family which abandoned him and suddenly reached out to him when it was convenient. His personality is one where he wouldn't share Ewon with anyone. But he is also doing it for Ewon's own good. I mean if he had stayed with the sister to take care of her because of the child living in an "unstable" environment, how long do you think that would take him? Besides, I don't think that environment with be psychologically healthy for him.

It isn't about Mookyul accepting his sister and they all live happily ever after. Ewon only has the capacity to choose and care properly for one thing at a time. So all in all, the ending made sense to me.

I couldn't agree more with you. I read the story all over again from the beginning, and I really wanna slap people in their face for saying Ewon & Mookyul was selfish, irresponsible etc. Oh come on people! Do you have an angel heart or somerthing?! Don't be such a hypocrite here! If you were Ewon or Mookyul going through all that shit, do you think you can accept the family like nothing ever happened? So what if Ewon abandoned Nabin when she didn't do him any wrong? did Ewon did anything wrong to be abandoned by his own parents? You feel sorry for Nabin because she is only middle school and just lost her father too? For God sake, Ewon barely an elementary school back then. At least Ewon didn't left her to death in some locked deserted place in the middle of forest with no food, water, or blanket. At least Nabin didn't have to work her ass off to pay the debt or living expense whereas Ewon have to do 5 part time job at one time to support himself. At least ewon give her a home, a maid to take care her unstable mother. Gosh, Ewon was an angel from my point of view. Ewon didn't grow up with his sister, he only know he had a sister from that one time when he going to visit his mother. Imagine people, you watching your family from a far, they look happily in their huge garden. Nabin was loved by her father & mother, don't you think Ewon would feel unjustifed? Do you think Ewon should love her sister just bcause their share the same blood? I watch this drama when two daughter got switched in the hospital. Do you know what people, the family love the daughter they raised in since a baby more than their actual biologic daughter. What I'm saying is life dosnt that simple love caring thing. To Ewon, Nabin was more than a stranger but of course he would feel oblige to take care of her since they are related.

Yep. The people saying otherwise definitely didn't understand Ewon and his POV.

I couldn't agree more! I think it's the most logical ending we could have had, given Ewon's character & his circumstances. Seriously what Ewon has done is more human-like than staying by his family side.
Was what he did cruel to the sis? yes it was but that doesn't mean it was WRONG! Sometimes cruelty in itself is a form of kindness.. & that's life, you can't get ALL what you want. You give up precious people in order to keep MORE precious ones by your side. So it's not like he chose not to care for the sis, it's just that he cared for Mookyul more. It's true that Mookyul selfishly wanted to keep Ewon by his, but guess what? love is selfish! & he loves Ewon so what did you expect? More importantly Mookyul knew that Ewon would get dragged back to his painful past & that would ruin him which is- I believe- is the stronger reason for his refusal to let Ewon go back to his family side.
All in all, it was a GREAT ending that showed Ewon finally reconciling with his past by letting go of somethings and holding on to other & finally having the courage to love whole heatedly.

You have a point there. That's what you called 'Life'. who ever said that "Life is fair" anyway. In reality, there's a lot of sibling who grew up together, then go their separate ways didn't even meet up after years. I read a lot of news, whereas some billionare died leaving a huge fortune and doesnt have an heir, the family lawyer put a lot of effort to find his brother who apparently living like a bum in the street. In today society thats a common thing you know. How many people out there who didnt keep contact with their family, even some hollywood celebrity do that you know.

Wholeheartedly agree with you. I had not seen your comment, but this my reply to a member that considers Ewon's decision selfish:

Looking at the situation objectively, and not subjectively, Ewon was between a stone and a hard place. Ewon had 3 choices . #1 Live together with mother and sister,#2 adopt sister and raise her along with Mookyul, #3 financially help mother and sister but stay with Mookyul. If he had chosen option #1, he would lose Mookyul which would have emotionally destroyed both of them. If he would have chosen Option #2, he would be taking up the gargantuan responsibility of raising a child, not to mention that he would be imposing the same on Mookyul, and most importantly, it would have opened a black hole situation because taking in the sister automatically means being exposed to the mental problems of the mother, meaning, he would always be dealing with the mother's mental instability and suicidal attempts; not to mention having to perpetually deal with whatever psychological traumas his sister had, on top of his own traumas and even Mookyul's (there' a reason why Mookyul is so possessive of Ewon,). I mean, please go back to this scene, Mookyul is pretty much admitting he even fantasized of killing not only his mother and sister, but Ewon as well! Do you really think it recommendable to bring in a child into their home life when both Ewon and Mookyul are themselves near the edge?

We cannot allow ourselves to forget that both Ewon and Mookyul have very deep emotional traumas of their own, and as much as they love each other, they are threading a delicate balance that has been proven to be easily shaken many times before. In other words, they are having a hard time with their own issues, therefore, they are not emotionally adequate to tackle parenthood as much as we would like to idealize the situation. Ewon did the right choice, the practical choice, the only fair choice for him and Mookyul. To allow the sister in would be the same as allowing in the mother and her mental problems for the duration of the her life. Also, Ewon did not abandon his sister and mother; after all, he spent everything, every penny he had by providing for them financially and he is definitely going to maintain communication with his sister; what he did not do is bring his sister into his and Mookyul's personal/intimate space, which again, considering their emotional issues, it was the only feasible solution for the ir specific circumstance.

Now, regarding the laudable thought of "family above everything", I would argue that this is nothing but a subjective idealistic sentiment not rooted in the realities of the human experience. Family loyalty HAS to be earned, it is not automatically and should never be. Why should any rational human being feel obligated to a family member (parents, siblings, cousins etc.) only because of blood ties, most especially if they have been abusive? that is not logical. Love, loyalty and trust have to be earned in order to expect reciprocity, anything else is only victimization, masochism or martyrdom.

In conclusion, Ewon made the right choice and I would argue he did not act selfishly as many are saying here. Selfishness is to lack consideration for others and to be concerned mainly with one's own pleasure or benefit. Ewon took consideration of his mother and sister by providing a financial support he didn't have to, and he almost sacrificed his own happiness with Mookyul for their sake, but thank goodness he came to his senses. i think that in his specific case, it would have been emotionally healthier for Ewon to act selfishly, but instead he emotionally tortured himself precisely because he is not selfish.

Ugh finally a comment that i can agree gives me satisfaction ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Absolutely I am in support of this comment. People are putting on a holier than thou acting saying he needs to raise this kid. For the next 2 decades Ewon's life is gone with kid raising. He himself never got to be a kid. With Mookyul his life is happiness and fun everyday. With that kid it's a responsibility he doesn't want. He pursued his own happiness in the end as he should. For all we know the mom is gonna get together with another dude and Ewon supposed to raise that kid too or what. If the girl really wants a stable mom and dad, let her go to a foster home or get adopted. Ewon never recieved the love and care this girl did, and suddenly she is barging into their lives.
