It feels like he killed himself after he left the guy. Cos he already clearly didn’t care much about himself or his safety as he was willing to take the drugs without knowing what it was, and stay in the company of a man selling guns, and even give up his virginity to him. And he was clearly unhappy about his home life, he didn’t want to go back and he had no respite, as even at night he couldn’t sleep well; all he wanted to do was see the snow. He talked about how “if you go into the snow it’s really warm”. I feel like after he left he just lay down in the snow, maybe took a sleeping pill there, and died. Just a theory :(
