how did so many people manage to miss the point of this story? the romance was just a byproduct of the redemption/forgiveness theme between the 2 primary characters. the author's intention wasn't to detail another bumpy boy-girl relationship, the purpose was much more profound. personally i don't care about whether or not any intimate relationships were developed because every character ultimately found the path to healing through shoya's efforts, and with this open ending, we can assume that everything we selfishly wished would happen afterwards, did happen.

I agree! I was hoping for maybe a bit more romance (because I'm a hopeless romantic) but then I realized the story was a lot deeper than that, and dealt with the issues of trust, hate, bullying, past mistakes, and ultimately forgiveness and moving forward. I absolutely loved it and I wish it never ended, but I was so happy I read it. I feel a bit different now myself.
