neither of them seem like the hopeless romantic type. sorry but this fandom is obsessed with them acting like women. they are men, get over it!
Eh, men can be hopelessly romantic too. Though, I don't see Asami and Akihito there at this stage, particularly. Their romantic feelings seem to express themselves more on Asami's side in surprise firework displays and letting Akihito disrupt his life; and on Akihito's side in making sure Asami is fed, and worrying about his safety, even though that's probably not required.
It's not the fact they're men that stops them being romantic, though, as much as their lack of communication.
I'm with anon on this one. I know some pretty cheesy romantic men, and some practical women who would laugh at prolonged eye-gazing or ask if they have spinach in their teeth or something. I am wary of the "acting like women" phrase instead of "acting like some feminine stereotype" or "acting like some cheesy romantic movie" or what have you. I know there are reasons for the generalization (as a rule women are more likely to enjoy the sticky sweet and cliche romance tropes), but when stated as a fact without exceptions, something about it makes me want to argue.
However, as to the main point the post was making, I agree that these characters are not prone to dramatic expressions of sentiment or romantic swooning. I read them as burying those feelings and being more likely to express them indirectly. But to each her own.
yep, can't say this enough.
Hey man not the entire fandom lol, I read Yaoi (even Bara) for the men to be MEN ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
I avoid quite a few things within the VF fandom that do try and push onto the characters certain things (that I personally don't like) but I think that's just it. For better or worse it's subjective and you will tend to get those that want AXA to be a bit more Shoujo etc. To each their own I guess…
So to sum it up... https://youtu.be/9D4Pui0cJ-4?t=33

Yep, totally non-romantic tough guys, just hanging out doing tough guy things like hiring fireworks to make the other tough guy happy:

They toast the fireworks with beer still in the cans, and then Asami moves on to what J Unleashed mentions. It's romantic in the sense that Asami did all that just to make Aki happy, but it lacks the melodrama of a telenovela or a bodice ripper eye-gazing gushy swooning hearts and butterflies moment. On a personal level it gives me the 'feels' without making me want to gag. That's good yaoi, that is.
Yeah, I'm not saying it's hearts and flowers romance, but it's a little different than junleashed characterizes it.
I'm responding to the whole "These are MEN, dammit!" kind of comment early on, which seeks to drag the argument to the other extreme. The fact is no, this is not a pair of starry-eyed, sonnet-spewing sprites but neither are they emotionally stunted bull moose teamsters who express themselves solely through grunts and belches. As with so many arguments, the answer is somewhere in the middle, and like you, I appreciate that about this pair.
You know though that it is the motive that I'm talking about. Asami didn't arrange for the fireworks in order to f*ck Aki. He doesn't need an excuse for that. He arranged for them to make Aki happy. Why? Because in spite of the fact that he is a man, something resembling an actual feeling has managed to push its way through his testosterone soaked brain.
Aren't you being hypocrite with your reply? If I recalled while back, you are the one posted something like what it will be like asami and aki get married . Even though, you know that's impossible, but you couldn't helped it to imagine that. It is not out of character for this fandom to thinking outside the box which I don't see anything wrong with it ,but you surely don't see it that way. Well, you went and said "get over it"does that include you as well? You can go ahead deny it , say mean things however, the fact remain fact.
While I consider Asami to be satisfyingly masculine enough, I wouldn't tag him as having a "testosterone soaked brain" (too funny! I'm stealing this from you...) Doing things to make people happy is a normal characteristic of Asami's.
I submit exhibit A (in the second row): http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/finder_character_book/uu/finder_character_book-chapter-1/11/

I was wondering if asami had carried aki to bed and aki was gazing into asami eyes all the WAY to the bed. Hopelessly romantic.
