King is not affected by the poison, the black poison is the dukes blood, the regas, uses the token to see into the past and See's Dukes ancestor eating the very first king I think(I forgot been long since I've read the novel), +the salt is a drug that has similar effects like black poison, and the dukes son get eaten by his mother bc she got addicted(the king(ml) tells this to the Duke in kinda the end when it's revealed he actually wasn't poisoned)
It's actually fun to read the novel since it kinda gives you the spooks when reading
