I was loath to take a chance on this because 1) stories set in middle/high school aren't really my thing & 2) I found the cutesy, shota-esque art style off-putting. So glad I set my prejudices aside, though, because this is one incredible story. The author injects so much life into the characters, and some of these chapters would make excellent coming-of-age indie film adaptations.
Parou/Osamu is my numero uno, probably because I find his backstory to be the most relatable, but I love all the characters. My only criticism, so far, is that recent chapters have felt a little meandering / aimless. It's like the author isn't sure what direction to take the characters/story in now that s/he's wrapped up many of the major plot points (Ryou's family situation, Marika's sex change). But I'm still loving the story, and I hope the author gets back on track in future chapters.
That last chapter ... oof, my heart.
I can't really blame Zheng Xi for his reaction, though. They're middle schoolers... and when your same-sex best friend kisses you out of the blue, it's not crazy to assume that said best friend might be gay, or having a sexual identity crisis. Doesn't make it any easier for Jian Yi though, poor thing.
They're not in middle school. Zheng Xi is in college. Jiyan was taken out of school by his father so he had to repeat the grade. Zheng moved on. But Jiyan is behind. They're adults.
No. The plot skips around. Even though the first several chapters take place when they're college-aged, the current story line takes place when they're in middle school. Believe me, I had to read through the story a few times to grasp it, but it's true.
Nope, it's middle school :-)
