I was wondering like what behaviours and names are considered unusual in japan? I'm writing something. It might be a bit of an ask but I want to also include some japanese superstitions. I know basic things like clapping at temples or shrines.
In japan it's regarded as dirty to blow your nose, to eat while walking, to leave a tip...
The number 4 has the same pronunciation as "death", so it's avoided
If you put your pillow toward the north, it will bring you bad luck.
In front of a cemetery, you hide your thumb (thumb in japanese is "oya yubi", and parents is "oya": if you hide your thumb you protect your family)
Don't cross you chopsticks
Breaking a geta means bad luck
A wife who is born during the year of the horse bring bad luck o her family, so she will not be a good wife
I'm writing a story and I've done so much research about Japanese history, sociology and overall the social tensions in Japan. I'm writing a story about two kids who don't fit in anywhere and I need a female name that is tough or could be heard as a guy's name. I don't really trust the baby name websites I usually use. For the guy I want his name to sound like spring but not feminine so I chose Haruo Yanaihara but idk if I want to keep it
I just can't bring myself to read it. Some parts of it just hurt my brain and so many characters piss me off and even though I've read Killing Stalking, this shit triggers some bad feelings and memories more than that. It's an interesting story and if I didn't get so upset by it, I would love it
