Well, read it, you'll understand it then. Josh is together with someone who tried to kill him two times, or did you forget that? It worked out. So anything is possible.
that’s not really how it is ( ̄▽ ̄) bc dane is very much aware of what kind of person grayson is. he doesn’t defend or condone grayson’s past actions, and has avoided him for a whole month bc of grayson’s twisted way of thinking (a result of a misguided upbringing, and the unhealthy management of a mental illness)
but his understanding of grayson’s character is also the reason why dane willingly stays with him. not because dane believes he can ‘fix’ him, but because he believes that grayson’s emotions ARE there, it’s just that he has never learned how to express and distinguish between them correctly. it is because dane understands that grayson’s self-perception is skewed, that grayson thinks he is doing things that will ‘help’ although his actions are doing otherwise.
dane iirc even thinks at one point that he’s not suited for teaching others abt emotions bc of his own lacking, and that makes jt clear that he does not stay to ‘fix’ him. him ‘teaching’ grayson about emotions only actually happened because dane was the catalyst to making him feel strong emotions. when coupled with his understanding of the situational context, grayson is able to connect the dots himself and categorize his own feelings. dane only affirms that fact. it was also stated in that novel that grayson knew the ‘how’ of emotions, but not the ‘why.’ dane is the reason he begins to understand the ‘why.’
both dane and grayson are very well written characters. you might appreciate dmiyc if you give it a chance, but ofc that’s up to you!! (⌒▽⌒)
Dane must be "i can fix him" personified bc how and why the fuck would you willingly be with this disgusting asshole????
