I think it is not only because Yashiro is afraid of Doumeki getting hurt, but deep down Yashiro is a "straight" person, as in, he thinks that leading a good, normal life is better. He has a very unfortunate life, and although he said he accepts it, I think he still wanted to be saved. In one of Sensei's note, he had an inner thought "why can't I be his (Doumeki's) sister", which I translated to "why wasn't there a person who cared for me enough to beat my step-father to death". He also genuinely thinks being a yakuza is bad, although he doesn't judge (which makes him a very respectable person).
So, he fixed Doumeki's relationship with his family so that Doumeki has a house to come home to, and insisted not to bind him with the sake-exchange. I think he let Doumeki stay with him until now only because he found Doumeki cute – or to be more exact, had begun to fall in love with him – yet unconscious about it. The moment he realized his love for Doumeki and that Doumeki could be dead due to "playing yakuza", he just did not have any more reason to let Doumeki stay.

Which is more heartbreaking to see how kind-hearted and strong Yashiro is T.T

During their sex, he said "don't break me", but I think it was too late. He knew fully well that admitting his love for Doumeki would break him, and having a gentle sex with him would break his last façade of "I'm okay with my life".
I can't wait to see how Sensei would tell us about Yashiro's life after all these commotions end, because I don't think he could go back to live his life like before.

Sigh. It's so painfully beautiful.
I worship Yoneda Kou with all my heart.

I started with the anime, and somehow it left quite an uneasy feeling after finishing the 3 seasons of it. I felt like both Nodame and Shinichi were very selfish in their relationship it was barely a healthy one. They rarely talked nor met, their communication was really bad.

however, I'm really glad I read the manga, it removed the uneasiness. In the manga, it was shown that their relationship is actually healthy, like, both Shinichi and Nodame really treated each other as their lover. And somehow Shinichi, which was colder in the anime, is actually more doting than Nodame in their relationship. Lol

Really? Wow that's like so different from the anime, BTW I haven't read the manga yet but I rewatched the anime recently and I got this sudden urge to read the manga lol

I would say it's very subtle, but very important.
For example, when Chiaki was asking "who's this Yun Long guy?", in the anime it was more like he was just curious because he never heard him before. But in the manga, it was shown that he was actually having a negative feeling (like insecurity, or jealousy). It was also shown that Nodame often just got along with guys he didn't know, which may explain his concern.

The most major difference to me is [contains spoiler below]
    ...
In the manga, Chiaki also said that he in the end realized that the relationship with Nodame was more important than his music career. This was during the time when Nodame was missing. He even ignored his father's sudden appearance despite his hate toward his father. This was omitted from the anime.

I see, that was interesting. I really do need to read the manga after all, thank you for taking your time to explain that

ugh cannot help but getting annoyed by Kou, I mean, asking someone's girlfriend for a date?? fine, she still had feelings for him etc etc, but have some decency a little bit!
I like how Futaba handled it, how she was earnest during her relationship with Kikuchi and never crossed the line. in the end she broke up with him and ended up with Kou, but that's fine, she was just being honest.

I used to like this manga a lot, but now the story has been dragging on for quite too long. The character development is really slow. The mangaka doesn't even reveal the characters' way of thinking claerly, a lot of history is kept hidden – how do we suppose to understand the characters? The story telling has been juggled from between Ren's and Haru's POVs, and sometimes even from others, making it even half-heartedly expressed here and there...
