Yes! Finally someone said! Even if he is not aware it's a red flag. If Dora was the female lead we would have all hated Dalton for 'leading her on' for his selfish desire. why would he agree to sketch her when he himself pointed out that it could lead to rumours? And specially when she mentioned she would hung it at her drawing room where anyone can see it.
I wouldn't think he was leading her on. He was firm and clear with his approach and explained why it was not appropriate. Dora on the other hand doesn't know when to back off. She is gonna end up pitiful bcuz of the all delusions everyone's been feeding her. Though, I still think Dalton should've been more adamant on his refusal. And, no, we Wouldn't have hated Dalton if he did what he has been doing the entire time even if Dora was the "female lead" bcuz why would we? Has he ever said words of pure admiration to Dora Lance? Willingly spent time with her? Opened up about him? It might be only you.

I don't know why I used to dislike this, but I'm also glad that I stopped reading this at that time so I was able to binge read it at once. I loved how the characters are written to be imperfect, to be more human, where I can pause to think and understand where their emotions are coming from. The incorporation of war also shows a glimpse of the long term results of its brutality due to people in power abusing it. There are a lot more of elements that are in this story that I genuinely love, but it's the characters being able to find the will to live despite all the unhappiness is something that warms my heart.
