This story delivered so much without promising anything! I was totally caught off guard by the plot twist! It made the reading worth it, even though I almost gave up at some points, thinking it was a bit boring… But it was definitely worth it!
Growing up surrounded by poverty and deprivation, constantly being humiliated, leaves scars that run painfully deep. It goes far beyond the bullying one might face at school, which is already traumatic enough. The insecurities, the crushing sense of not belonging, of being invisible, worthless, were only amplified here by the loss of memory of the only people who ever showed this character real affection.
I always had a feeling he’d end up on this dark path...
