He was (he is still) always driven by his family love until the day his shit-colored obsessed brother decided to act on his "love" and his sister cursed everyone. As I agree with the damsel in distress part, for me it is consistent with his redemption path.
Wanting Horus to help Anubis is no different from the time he sacrificed his body for Anubis soul or the time when once again his shit-colored brother possessed Anubis and he wanted Isis to cure him after severing his son's arm.
