Eh, I think I ruined it for myself because I looked at the comments first. Wasn't expecting chapter 1 and honestly felt icky because of the noncon actions of the MC. I would have loved this if it didn't have the smut, especially in combination with an ending like that.
Just finished my second read, this is my favourite of the genre so far. I love the angst of a character who's pushed to the lowest by their circumstances and the reward of them changing their fate to something so heart warming. I've found a few that are similar to this if anyone is interested, but also if anyone has recommendations of similar stories plzzzz let me know, I feel like I've hit a wall and can't find anything similar anymore. :(

Sorry but the female characters body proportions are bizarre looking. They have a tiny waist with pin legs, arms and neck, and then a gigantic chest. It's especially obvious on the FL who often wears trousers and it's uncanny how large her upper torso is. Even when she wears a dress her chest and back looks unnatural in comparison to her waist. I thought it was just her built but it's present on the other female knights too. It's giving Elon Musk meme build but with a snatched waist.
Also, I'm like 13 chapters in and I'm bored af. How is this a 9.5, and based off others comments it doesn't get better. :(

But now Noa puts in the effort to do the story right, they act offended and want to take the moral high ground? It’s genuinely not that serious but the “dih” part was just humor and the translation wasn’t even bad at all. What are they even trying to fix? There’s nothing to fix, the translation is fine. “Defending dih” as if it was ever that deep, the whole point is that they’re going out of their way to translate chapters and they’re adding humor isn’t even all that crazy. They re uploaded with a “fixed” translation over the one that was already fine they didn’t even put any effort lmfao they just changed that part and kept the rest lmfaoooo
You aren't entitled to praise for translating something if you're basically sabotaging it for people who are taking it seriously. For you to genuinely be that unbothered by the original Yoshi translation I don't think you were emersed in the story in the slightest, so why get so defensive when someone corrects it to make it make sense? You say it's not that serious but you clearly seem bothered.
Yes I’m bothered because the translation simply isn’t that serious to begin with. Sabotaging what? If people were actually taking anything seriously they would buy the actual chapter and read it as I said we’re getting this translation for free, so that’s why I’m unbothered. I am immersed in the story, but a word like dih doesn’t offend me and it shouldn’t lmfaoo if that word offends you or makes you mad that’s just you. Sorry but do people reading this need educating on consent? The uke tries to force himself on the seme and gets mad when he says no! Tough that the guy you slept with doesn't remember what happened, no means no! All the other instances of sex between them are also rape through coercion. If someone says yes because you guilt tripped them, that's not consent. Also lying to someone to initiate sex is also rape so his plan to get him to fall for him only to dump his is also a form of rape as they wouldn't have consented to sex knowing the person's full intentions.
There was no malicious intent behind what the seme did, but for the uke there most definitely was. Are people turning a blind eye because the uke is the one being rapey? If so, educate yourself plz because all of this is really important to know if terms of protecting yourself, validating other victims and not being a perpetrator yourself.
I haven't even thought about the whole lying situation, but you're right. Can't believe you're getting downvoted when it's also helping readers protect themselves irl. Doesn't mean the story is bad of shouldn't be consumed or whatever.

Well, it's still a little sad that the initial reaction is to reject an objective statement just because you love the story. I think it's hard for many people to enjoy a story but admit it has flaws. Many fans treat it like a black or white thing. To them, a story is either bad or good, enjoyable or not enjoyable, but that's a harmful perception. You know, one of my favorite BLs and comfort reads is the novel Heaven Official's Blessing. One time, I pointed out how badly the women are treated in the novel—by the narrative, by other characters within the universe, and just the way they were written. I provided examples, said it in a way that wasn't blaming the author or fans, but genre conventions, cultural influences, etc., and I still received so much hate. It's strange because I love the novel so much, so I want to talk about it deeply, and acknowledge that there are flaws so future writers may be more aware of their internalized misogyny.
Same about consent! I do understand why people love Therapy Game. The characters feel very real, and I like how the ML acknowledges his bisexuality and actually stands up against his homophobic friends, and how the MC is confidently gay! That's not common in BLs. The art style is beautiful, too. Their relationship doesn't have to be perfect, it's fiction after all, but it's not the "super sweet" romance everyone makes this out to be. It doesn't have to be. Just people being aware of this is what we need.
Aw thanks so much. Well said and agreed, I've been in your position before and it can be alienating and frustrating to be misunderstood because of how people perceive it. I think it's great how unique and different people's perspectives are but it can definitely be sucky to be in the position of seeing something others don't, especially if it's morally wrong.
I'll have to give Heaven Official's Blessing a read, I've seen it's had a mahnwa adaptation so I wonder if the treatment of women was addresses in that?
Well said, nothings perfect and I know it's well loved for a reason. I hate how so many stories depict bisexuality so I definitely appreciate that.

I don't think it's any different there. Only the demeaning narrative is missing, I guess. The manhwa cuts out a loooot of things, though, so it might be hard to follow (I only read the first two chapters bc I don't like the art style). I'd always recommend the novel haha (and anime).
Yeah, same. That's why I wish stories and dynamics were more diverse when it comes to BL in general. But every genre has its problems. Let's not stop talking about tropes and issues!

Is also worth noticing that, as much as I love manga and smut, no one should really "learn" from what is shown.
Like is not only about Therapy Game, or Hinohara-sensei, but, is obvious that a big part of it is influenced by the culture and KINKS of the author.
I like TG a lot because sensei really put some thought/consideration in the sexuality aspect, putting clear labels and the issues/stereotypes they face, but still, this is smut, and I feel the mangakas, no matter how they are or the story, they always rush on to the sexual part, same happened with a certain other manga that woul've worked better as a slow burn, the mangaka in the 1st volume admitted she was being real respectful with certain issues (one of the main characters had OCD) , just for some reason, start to be all sex from the 2nd volume onwards. Like, I feel, from a marketing point of view, they need to get somehow on the action, and considering A LOT of the readers start to actually feel desperate to see some action, I always believed it to be true (my conspiracy theory basically) thats why it feels "pushy" and too fast.
Also, the whole sex culture is a mess, I'd hear stories from my friends and think "wait, isn't that a crime?" But they think that since they accepted and enjoyed it at some point then, they can't really say anything afterwards.

There is an odd vibe to this one. It's cute but their relationship feels really iffy and there a lot going on with the potatoes, MCs mental health and a potential yuri side couple that their relationship takes a back seat. The sex scenes honestly feel meh, and especially the second one because the MC was pretty much completely out of it. I just don't feel all that invested in them as a couple, and I have a bad feeling about the ML.
