She might seems to be harsh and cruel but if you understand her you will see that she hopes Max won't return to that hellhole. Her words are harsh but she means well. She's gonna help soon. And about the person who hates Riftan please note he is not a perfect character. Both maxie and riftan have a lot to unpack and improve.. and if you ask me that what's makes this a good story. Development might be a bit slow... but it's going there.... book 1 of the novel was good.
