Yeah, it's really the norm for stories tagged with smut. Basically, the authors prioritize bonking scnes above story-telling or even something as basic as pacing. It's sad and sadly is the norm, tho you CAN find some authors that do make a good story on all fronts despite smut being the main focus. It's like playing russian roulette tho.
I tend to read the first chapter and if pacing is off I just flip pages and read every other speech bubble. There is no story anyway and I find making up wour own details after page flipping makes for a better experience. Kinda like: page-flip, play some music and re-imagine the story.
Many of these stories are rushed and feel unfinished even. Tho the ones I hate most are the ones that PRETEND to be a smooth story and then just go BAM, escalation, deal with it.
Those are just weird to read and make it clear this is basically jack-off material in comic format. XD
Russian roulette couldn’t be a better description xD I’ve come upon some good smut manhwas that have really nice story and pacing, but then there’s ones like these where the second they meet for the first time seme jumps the uke’s ass outta nowhere and they start banging

Yeah, THAT is basically the norm for smut. And it's really the vast majority in the genre. I think stories with smut AND good writing have only become a thing in the past years. It started out as a genre that's really only focusing on long bonking scenes OR just there to jack off. Like a porn in comic form, really.
I kinda wish we could get a new genre name for stories that actually have smut and good writing. Seems kinda necessary nowadays.
I agree but I am really happy with the slow progression of good writing coming into play with the smut genre, I’m ong so delighted when I see a manhwa that’s got smut AND good story/writing. Lowkey feels like a blessing in the moment.
It definitely IS, very true! Combining good writing and decent smut scenes is like getting your favourite cake without having to share with anyone else. Rare happenings, but if it does happen: It's a good day~
