First Anime were three items, Astro Boy, Prince Planet (Planet Boy Papi) and Marine Boy (Undersea Boy Marine) - they began being broadcast here in the states around the late '60's early '70's. Marine Boy was particularly bishi for a boy, and it featured a mermaid and a dolphin.
