But if you are writing something that seems to attempt to pull the veil behind serious topics like guilt and rape within the context of childhood trauma, it just must be done so so carefully. Because I will be then tuning in with my listening brain and asking what should I gain from this?
Even if they were adults, of course that would not have warranted any of that. But adults know better than to make empty promises because they know promises are heavy. Children dont, which further reinforces Sakuma being the picture perfect victim and just throws the chance at having something to actually feel guilty about out the window. What was the point of including this weird guiltfest? Do we really think Sakuma wouldnt have given his child self an inch of leeway? At least if so, WHY???To see him be made out to feel GUILTY? To have a heart to heart with his rapist where nothing about what HE went through is truly confronted? And worse, to have a happily ever after with his rapist? I just can't.
