I just read the comments and the author of the banana scandal is tweeting to take down his/her manhwa or he/she will sue the site or something.

It's the act of making someone an object of sexual desire based on some aspect of their identity. For example a fetishes that focus on muscles, b**bs, feet, etc.. It can also be a fetish of some form of activity (Just like some of bl smut focus on bdsm)

I seen it too but I think they are taking about how some people like to fetishized or sexualize two guys that are maybe interacting in a touchy way like they can be friends doing silly things but when you see the comment section it’s full of people that are shipping them or sexualizing them in that they aren’t but yeah I’m not really good at explaining but I hope that helps and if I’m wrong I hope someone will educate me more in this topic

It is when a person, namely a straight female, fantasies about wanting to be involved (indirectly or directly) in the sexual acts of gay men. It is not anything to do with a girl stanning or shipping guys (straight or unknown preference).

I don’t believe anyone should be labelled as a BL fetishizer as there is a big difference in reading BL and actually wanting to go out and watch 2 guys get on with it as part of your shmex routine. Like seriously, BL is mostly written by women for young women. If you’re using this site, you’ve probably been a little curious to see what this BL stuff is all about. It’s a natural thing to be curious and yet I see that horrid term used on here all the time. We need to stop attacking other users and throwing around loaded terms like fetishisation.

Ok, this is how I understand the topic, feel free to correct me

to fetishize something means to see someone as an object for your sexual desire. since some BLs are pretty much porn, females tend to get off with that.

the problem with fetishizing BL is that some people aren't able to distinguish reality from fiction, so they think of fetishizing gay couples or making straight men gay as something "funny" or "not serious".

I also had that kind of mindset when I first started getting into BLs.

I realized how toxic it was later on.

Especially now with the shipping culture we have, some influencer/celebrities/etc in real life are uncomfortable with getting shipped by another male. Not because they're homophobic or anything, but because some females are literally putting labels on them.

like what the other person said fetishizing is to make something the object of sexual desire. so when ppl say “fetishizing bl” for example, straight women fetishizing mlm; like wanting mlm to kiss eachother irl,,overly obsessive with mlm to the point of having -sexual desires- to seeing mlm specifically..hope this makes sense. and could help u a bit idk,,
also i’ll note that personally i don’t think it’s bad for anyone to read bl, but when the person is alrdy thinking things like “two men kissing that’s so hot” and they are not apart of mlm..they are fetishizing. also the mfs on tiktok will def call ppl out right away when they see ppl, (straight women specifically) only focus on the sex factor of bl,, so yea that’s just what i’ve seen tho lol

It's basically when someone who isn't a gay man reads 'bl' etc and treats it like an object for their pleasure and develops all these stereotypes and views that are incredibly harmful and/or homophobic towards gay men. Think like straight men watching lesbian porn because they're attracted to women and make it a fantasy to be able to watch or take part in real lesbian sex. It's usually 'yaoi' that is the more harmful of the two gay manga genres as it more often than not portrays rape, pedophilia, abuse, incest etc in a positive way which I shouldn't have to explain why that's not okay. The way some people treat gay men after reading yaoi also falls under fetishization. The dictation of who tops or bottoms in the relationship just based on how someone looks is very harmful, especially when the stereotype becomes that a smaller, weaker, more femenine looking man has to bottom and the ultra masc man has to top. Yes some people like that do exist but not everyone applies to that and just stereotypes in general aren't helpful. More often than not, the line between fiction and reality gets blurred and some of these people that read yaoi end up treating gay men as if they are yaoi characters and push their idealised view of gay men onto them which is usually infantilising or the idea that they're sinful and taboo. Actually, the whole taboo idea is a large part of fetishing the genre and just plain homophobic given the fact that all lgbt+ people have had to live hidden for so long because of cishet people saying our existence is wrong and not allowed so then for some people that read yaoi/bl to basically bring that back even if they don't mean it in a bad way is just not it.
