If you are looking for regret/redemption plot with mc and ml ending up together it's not for you. Basically mc goes through all the shit alone, handles everything by himself, saves himself, clears his name by himself and ends up alone and broken but on the highest position. Ml does regret a lot but still not really the main focus of the story. No healing arc either. Novel has grape depicted with every details in like every 3 chapters. Manhwa doesn't do justice in depicting what's going on in MC's mind. It feels very rushed tbh, it skips quite a bit.
So its not a happy ending?
MC is not 'happy' per se, but he somehow comes glorious. Honestly after everything he goes through being happy doesn't come easily for him. He doesn't end up with any ML even though he DOES have someone nice beside him, but their relationship doesnt get developed in the story.
Kinda happy to me, I don't want him to end up with one of those dickheads. With them gone, he can heal slowly.
I am happy this is the route the story is going because MC being able to forgive after all the shit he's been through. While I do believe that Halid has some love for MC, he's also a selfish Egomaniac with a victim complex. Which doesn't allow him to properly empathize or understand Knox, and in Halid's mind he is the biggest victim in this situation.
I actually so happy that redemption is out the window. It may not be the standard happy ending but it has the making of one.
If you're a reader who perceives a happy ending with the MC and ML even with the abuse, then this is not a happy ending you're looking for. If you're a reader who perceives happy ending when the abuse character escaped abuse and didn't go back to the one that abuse them, then this manhwa is a happy ending for you.

Around ch48 assholes finally realize Knox is innocent only after Knox basically spoonfed the truth to them. I meant the manhwa doesn't do justice for what is going on in MC's mind. I only went to the novel cuz some of mc's actions didn't make sense to me, u know becoming all too subservient too fast for being a high and mighty noble, so I checked out the novel, read some MC's inner thoughts then I kinda understood where he was coming from. Anyways, novel was like 160 chapters manhwa wraps up everything in 60 chapters.
Everytime I try to read this, I remind myself that it's just a rape fetish, I'm just here for the fked upery, I end up getting emotional. Itd be different if the rape is glossed up as 'yeah but he liked it', but precisely because Haewon's emotions/reactions/ mentality so real and taken seriously (to the readers) I can't help but feel the squeeze at my heart. I don't know any dickheads like the MLs, but I can see how would Haewon become like this (broken, knows it's wrong and fked up yet still hopeful). Why the fk I torture myself like this. Knowing fully well they gonna end up 2 gether, and no justice will be served.....
then it's not a fetish entirely? a plot exists, even if it's entirely developed by the protagonist and not because of a 'big agenda.' the protagonist has reactions towards the abuse, such as PTSD and suicidal thoughts. just because the rape is what's used to 'hurt' the protagonist and create the conflict, doesn't mean it's a fetish. specially when the protagonist is not reacting like the erotic webtoons that do have rape as a kink. haewon is a character who has his struggles and his reaction towards his abuse--to minimize the plot and his struggles as a 'rape fetish' seems a bit insesitive, specially since the whole webtoon is a nightmare and not shown as something sexually pleasing.

idk if you're still looking, but "drunk in love" also have this kinda trope where the seme is a total asshole that you really cant help but hate them and watch them going through redemption arcs. (it's a manhua sadly, so they have to censor most intimate moment, but it has great plot)
i think that manhua has the best chasing arc i've ever read lol, it was just so crazy. you'd have to bear the angst at the beginning though.
