I get you. He will always be a morally grey character even right up to the end (I appreciate that Zig didn't suddenly make him all reformed at the end). And yes he has done some horrible things.
Ash gets a lot of hate in the story for his strict discipline of Grayson but I agree with it, especially after Grayson's first offence. Ash's greatest fear was that Grayson would murder someone or be murdered himself.

Wdym morally grey towards the end. He impeoved so much throughout their relationship. Doesnt even pick fights anymore

He was excited (ears flapping) at the thought of Dane losing his eyesight permanently. And even worse, at the hospital he had the thought of killing Dane. It was good writing to have these characters traits still be present but he overcomes the urge & checks himself and even admits it to Dane. So yes he did improve a lot but he will still be a morally grey character imho.

Omegas in this universe are actually more dominant (specially if they are dominant omegas) than alphas, when it comes to pheromones and marking. One alpha can only have one omega, but one omega can have many alphas. In zig’s universe, the omegas are also the ones who do the marking.

Dominant alphas are by nature psicopaths, specially if they manifest young (like grayson and his sister). They are obligated to release their pheromones through orgies with dominant omegas ( or through medical proceedures) every month during their heat cycle, otherwise they will deadass get brain damage and go fucking insane, its not something they can control like a mental illness, its more like their brains become scrambled eggs or like they have rabbies idk how to explain.

Thats what happened to their dad Ashley miller, he was madly in love with koi, some shit happened (i dont wanna spoil you) and so he didnt release his pheromones for over 10 years. Thats why he is so fucked up.

Ashley became really possessive and controlling of koi, even when it came to their kids (koi doesnt even complain tho he is exaclty where he wants to be tbh), the fact that grayson tried to poison koi just made things worse and ashley made it harder for them to have any contact With koi. Its not that they were abusive as in hitting them, its mostly like they were negligent.

Ashley locking his kids in the wardrobe is mostly because his dad dominic did that to him, so he was taught like that, later on he also came to find comfort in hiding in the closet when he started to get brain damage. He also truly believed koi’s absence wouldnt affect the kids because he grew up without his omega’s dad presence as well. Its overall kind of generational trauma.

Another way to extract pherormones other than orgies is for it to be manually extracted, but thats very painful and less efficient, therefore discouraged.

Actually, extracting pheromones now is a lot more advanced and less painful than during Ashley’s times, at that time the procedure was longer and involved excruciating pain.

They also used to test on ashley but then again not as efficient and couldnt be done as much, so his pheromones really accumulated and he became insane (fun fact, this business also wanted to test on koi and ashley didnt let them cause hes very protective of him).

Thats why ashley encouraged his kids from a young age to release their pheromones on these parties, which is very insane overall cause some of them were minors as far as i know (havent gotten to all novels yet so some details might be missing).

Chase was kind of rebellious and just refused to go to these parties (he was a virgin until chase) so he used to just extract them manually like i said. He is considered the greenest flag among the alpha siblings? Still he is also crazy himself and tried to kill ppl like 5 times during his novel theres also dub con on his novel due to heat and so on.

I believe grayson’s brain as well as his twin sister is more damaged because besides from manifesting as soon as they were born, they probably werent able to partake in the phenomenon parties (aka orgies) since they were minors… but im not sure, idk if they only get their heats after puberty or smth. It is canon tho that grayson doesnt have feelings or morals, he truly only cares about dane.

Thats also the case for most dominant alphas on zig’s universe, they are all kind of psychopaths and only really care about their partners (not necessarily omegas, like in Nathaniel’s case (his bf is a beta)).

Im reading lick me up if you can rn (ashley and kois novel) and tbh im loving it, its really cute overall, with angst, earning, chasing and etc. a bunch of tropes i love like popular sporty rich guy x nerdy/ loser poor guy. The romance is really sweet and they are a great couple.

Its just unfortunate how they became bad parents because of all the trauma and emotional baggage they were carrying ( more shit went down during their novel, but then again i dont want to spoil it too much), ashley also didnt want any kids, koi was the one who wanted 12. Eventually ashley agreed to ONE kid, but koi just kept convincing and lowkey manipulating him to have more

Ashley even went to the lengths of getting a vasectomy, but as it is said on this chapter, a dominant alphas sperm is VERY strong. they finally stopped when they had an omega kid because he resembled koi so ashley was like “enough”

Overall id just say every character in her novels are at best morally gray you cant just hold them to normal “human/ real life” standards, cause thats not how their minds and biology are wired.

Someone in the comments deadass said “mentally ill ppl also need to take accountability”… and i agree… but its not the case here its not that they are mentally ill, its just that their minds dont work yk?

Yes, n he was held accountable for his actions till the end. But the two things that the novel clarified that his heart never had any malicious intentions and that he could have been turned out to be different if he was guided properly. Even though, he will never be forgiven for wht he did.

sigh i know all that. I read the novel. Ik grayson and ashley have problem with their brains bc of their traits. But that doesn’t mean it excused their past action. This is like saying those psycopath who killed ppl bc smtg is wrong with their brain can’t be blamed. Ppl are allowed to dislike a character who had done bad things even if that character has a development. I mean some ppl still hate ashley. Ppl still hate keith for raping yeonwoo. All of them are dominant alpha who has screw loose on their brain and had shown character development but that doesn’t mean their past get erased easily, and yes that includes chase too. I was just pointing out your response of ‘this is not a real life’ is not a good answer. This is fiction indeed, but even in fiction we still understand what categorised as bad based in real life. Bc if everyone think any problematic content in fiction is just mere fiction, then there shouldn’t be any uproar and criticism about things like romanticism of rape, abuse, racism, etc

Great summary! I also love Lick Me Up If You Can the most out of the novels! It's definitely the sweetest romance (pre-Ash's brain damage). Even after that I still adore them as a couple. And Ash has my heart because he's the only one out of the Miller dominant alpha to never to hit his partner.
Btw, have you read Bliss's novel yet?

Around halfway through, but it's just like a trial relationship like trying to see if it'll work out (although Dane is not really into it) they'll start being lovey dovey at least at the 80-90% mark of the novel, but seeing how the manhwa's pacing is, I think we'll reach it quicker than it is in the novel
