The whole thing was so ambiguous that it could be badly written point for the plot or left ambiguous because we and the characters don't know fully what happened.
Also, I have no idea does this one have original novel etc., so manhwa might have left out something.
But this series is trashy drama, so it's probably just for the drama feels.

It has become rare? I think it was fine while back, but I guess most of us ended up in B@to at some point and didn't stay here. (Even I have lost so many account in here, because I forgot what I used as a name.)
Granted, the systems here aren't easy for conversation, but I think it's because that is the only way mangago has survived to this day: Asian companies seem to hate communities, especially Korean ones. And even more so if those communities are full of women or minorities, what tends to happen in these kinda places.
So it seems to be a bit of a safety thing for the webpage that conversations don't happen. But I'm just guessing.
