YOU GUYSSS IM SOOO DONE WITH THE NOVEL. I've cried for the last 10 mins and I'm getting a headache and it's 3 am AND I HAVE SCHOOL IN 5 HOURS- I can't I need a break from the novel
The major event of the story is the war with the trolls. Riftan and his army has to go to defend the border. Max fought tooth and nails to come alone despite Riftan's objections. Finally he allowed her to come along because they needed a magician who could heal. skip skip skip most of the details of the trip.... In one of the major battle/turning point of the novel is when Max used up all her mana to create barriers to trap many of the trolls who would have destroyed the city they were in. During the battle she got super injured. Dislocated shoulder, broken ribs, mana exhaustion, blood lost, and..... she miscarried the baby she didn't know she had... Riftan found out about it but told every one to shut their mouths because it would have caused Max to be too shocked and that would not have helped given her condition. He was heartbroken so he sent her away to a safe place (the imperial palace with princess Agnes) Max didn't know she had a miscarriage until she met her father much later after she arrived at the palace to recoup/recover. He wanted to drag her back to the Duke's estate so that she cant bring shame to his name. He told her that the king was making fun of him and question Rosetta's fertility (Max's half sister). He told her that it is best to be divorced from Riftan so he could marry the princess since the king wants that. Max was super shocked to hear that she lost her baby and ran out of the room she was in with her dad. The knights escorting her ran out from another room to her. She asked them and they confirmed that miscarriage was one of the things that happed to her and they were told to keep it a secret by Riftan. Thee duke came out and told them that he would be taking her back to Duke's castle because it is better for her to be with family. She followed along due to shock.
Of course she was abused at the duke's castle... Riftan finally came to Croix's castle but the duke wouldn't let them meet. Max tried to sneak out so she would see Riftan from afar but was caught by the guards. The duke was livid with her so he beat the shit out of her. He told her to take her dress off and started whipping her. She closed her eyes and crouched down in pain but the pain suddenly stopped coming. She slowly looked up and saw Riftan holding the duke's arm. He made a fuss about Riftan stress passing into his castle and it is a felony. He tried to justify his action by saying that it is his way of discipling his kid. He said that there is a healer so there wouldn't be any traces of the wound anyway. Riftan remained quiet and didn't say a word. The duke told Riftan to follow him so they could talk about his crime. Riftan followed him but soon he grabbed a chair and swung it hard at the duke who then flew like a rag doll. Riftan proceeded to beating the shit out of the duke and would have killed him if his knights didn't come and stop him. The knights were able to enter the castle because rosetta drugged the guards and let them in. The rem dragon knight? (Riftan's knights) told Rosetta to call a healer before the duke dies. She just kinda stood there and looked down at the bloody duke. She told them to leave before the other guards come. Riftan took Max out of the castle and went to an inn.
