That grandpa is a fallen/exiled hero who has trained the royal family, possibly a high ranking noble himself. But since he is not avoiding travel or anything, I think he is a retired commander that has lost his family and sense of self. So he is trying to redeem himself by doing good deeds. ╮(￣▽￣)╭ medium confidence but he doesn't seem like a hidden villain, just (plain) suspicious
Tyr's father is that missing nobleman and he is either the current hero on an undercover mission or family black sheep since it's full of prodigies ┗( T﹏T )┛ This is a weak one. Need more info to properly flesh it out
(All of this are theories) For the father ,yes he is.. Different mother or an illegitimate, adopted by the family. The old man might be as you said close to the crown. My theory is that he might be a the lord of the magic tower or somesort. Since he knew a lot of nobility and able to talk to them.
The magic tower theory makes more sense to me
Was it ever explain why his father wants him to suffer so much? All I could piece together is that his mother died from birthing him but it was his father's choice to impregnate his wife. Why make him suffer? Why not ignore him?
In the novel it is basically said that it’s kind of instinctual for the demons to procreate (which makes sense when you think about how hard it is for them to do so in the first place). So his dad felt the instinct to keep his son alive, because that was his job as a demon, but he hated him because he killed his wife (even though that is what she was initially for, as we have seen swans aren’t always loved). So their demonic line is guaranteed (because Roth would never kill his child, even if only by instinct, though I could go on by why I think he wouldn’t do that anyways), and the guy decides to make Roth suffer like he did (and was presumably hoping to continue the cycle with Svanhild, but Roth, though apathetic towards him, did not blame his kid).
