i'm ngl it bothers me that paula still has to bow her head and beg if she wants to protect her sister, her only family. she doesn't have the authority to decide anything and all these nobles seem to be very comfortable leaving her in that position so that they can feel generous for every wish they grant her. like, they say that they like her and all but they've never really interacted with her as people on the same level. she always obviously put herself below them. even when she was bold and defiant, she never truly forgot "her place" as a "mere maid". and it seems like that makes them feel safe and even amused at times. i just want to know how they'd treat a paula with more self-esteem. a paula who gives orders without apologizing or asking for permission. would they allow that? or do they think she should know her place even after saying that they love her or that they're friends? it kinda feels like they only want her to have self-esteem if it's granted by them. anyway, i love paula and i just want her to be happy. i honestly don't think anyone in this story deserves her. i guess lucas did. oh lucas...
You're not entirely wrong but if you ever meet someone as bright and kind as Paula, you'll understand why.
What my friend over here says is that you have to measure the amount you share with these people. I was bothered by it the whole story as well, but I noticed that if you solve any of Paula's issues (family, trust, money, etc) with nobles power, you won't be able to be a friend of hers.
it took time for both of them to get together but how SATISFYING it was, and I knew it was going to be satisfying, mending all the issues one by one, with good friends and somehow nice environment, and it was the kind of environment I was looking for, because the main issue was her experiences piled up and her damn twisted family, history of abused and of course a sister that still outs her finger where it hurts (by the way, I am not sure what does she earn by doing this anymore but if shes like that by nature I am not surprised anymore).
So, for me, Paula needs time, she needs to solve stuff by herself, if she needs support she will have it.
Of course if she wants to run away I will tell Paula nope, it's time to solve stuff and stop running away, nobody deserves to live a happy life more than you cute Paula, and go on lovelyyyyyyy....
And we will always remember Lucas.

i think i see what you mean. in short, there's nothing they can do because she doesn't really allow them to treat her as more than a mere maid. she constantly puts herself down and trying to argue that they're equals just makes her go on a self-deprecating spiral again because "HOW could we be equals when you're so radiant and i'm so unsightly and" so saying "ok i'm a noble and you're a maid but you're allowed to do this and that because i like you" ends up yielding better results because it doesn't go against her perception of reality, which becomes our comfort zone no matter how negative it is. you can't really change someone's opinion of themself, you can just show them that they're very important to you and why
Yessssh that's it. Though it is difficult to change that perception, it can help. And of course, you can't allow that person "to go back" to the previous stage.
Going back means living from dreams and memories, but never finding happiness for herself. They will always get stuck there. As you can see in this story, she could have perfectly kept living like that.
