I think its more like because his family is sh*tty he HAD to become a coldheart asshole to survive in there. And since he's obviously from a high-class family he can't really avoid them..
Yeah, jusy by looking at his brother. Doesnt5even care about his feelings, he is more concerned about the marriage between chowon and dojun than the two of them.
Unfortunately many family members, for some sick reason, care more about the 'image' of the person they are associated with ,their partner, appearance, behavior etc, things that people MUST choose and have by themselves or else they will obviously live a miserable life. Honestly, life would be better if everyone just minded their own business and let others with their own unique happiness (if its healthy and stuff xd!)
