I told y'all ts would have smth racist or problematic... When manhwas usually have a dark character or at least a diff ethnic group (mainly based on Romanis, Arabs, Black people and other races/ethnicities) they always throw in sum stereotypes or some slur . But I was wrong for bringing up how these types on mahwas always end up doing smth like that and it was consistently justified by others cause it was a "historical manhwa"

Perhaps you can educate them, instead of complaining here— from a non white

It's honestly weird as hell when a dark skinned character is introduced n theyre described w shit like "beastly" n "barbaric". Like i could smell the orientalism as soon as the location for where ml lives is in the desert . And don't get me started on the " civilised" innocent white fl and "barbaric" darkskinned ml trope.....

I get your point from a modern POV. But remember this is set in another time period entirely! In the past, westerners, especially royalty and those of high statues viewed people of Color from other countries as inferior and beast like. Cultural differences and the embedded practices of slavery boasted these views so I think it‘s actually more historically appropriate and correct that the author integrated that in the webtoon.

Literally. Like that's almost the whole point. How are you going to invade and pillage a nation? By discrediting them ofc.

It doesn't mean it's true, but it's in the nations best interest to act so. Like the crusades? I don't believe they genuinely believed in god to that degree. Some did, probably, but most just wanted an excuse to expand their power

As Asian muy guess is maybe because the author is Asian, in Asian, tribe people usually have more brown skin. I think it might be one of the reason. Because usually the tribe or barbaric (how they call them because they life freely and not sticking to the etique rule) have more free life such as hunting and living more flexible instead of people who live in noble/kingdom society who have strict rule and stritc life style. That's one of the reason too they always potray tribe/barbaric character with more buffy and manly look. Cmiiw plis!

Yeah i get that but it's still uncomfortable to see over and over in manhwas both historical and modern portraying dark skinned characters as "unruly"

I get that, but its a common reoccurring theme in both historical and modern manhwa.

Yes it's a historical manhwa, however it is a common reoccurring theme even in some modern manhwa. It is honestly just strange that the dark skinned characters are often referred to like that.

Yeah. Like how the FL will always be an innocent childlike whiter than snow virgin white women and the brown ML will be promiscuous. The brown women are often sexualised(which makes no sense when they have a religion imitating Islam or Hinduism as modesty is a key component of those religion) and portrayed as slutty and vulgar for their sexuality while the ML is deemed as a sex God. Also when the same traits are gave to white ML(unruly, not etiquette educated) they're almost never call barbaric or beastly which isn't even histocally accurate cause nobles for sure consider peasant and commoner as animals.

Well reality does affect fiction and vise versa. You can't deny that a lot of the times when making dark skinned characters in manhwa, authors often stereotype them

to make a fiction you need to have some refrence it might be from historical events or from imagination a fictional story doesnt affect reality except if people start believing that they can literally use animalistic powers. A white person can tan if they stay under the sun for some time but still they are white just tanned. now lets just enjoy the story and lets stop comprare unrealistic things to reality and call it wierd . ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

You made a comparison derived from reality then you say not everything has to be realistic. Make it make sense. Fiction reflects reality. Doing some research, I discovered that in Korea, paleness is associated with innocence and tanness with vulgarity TILL THIS DAY.

Those FL are not white because they're noble but because they represented what the Koreans expectations for women: pale, virginity, a childlike innocence and as Kpop stans you can definitely notice it in the way kpop idols are treated by knetz.

You're reading on an illegal site, it's not like you already bought those stories with hard earned money, there is no reasons for you to not be critical of what you're consuming

i will disagree the second paragraph if you look at old historical painting you will see nobility as quite white cause they also used lots of white make up you can look it up especially victorian times. i know that i am reading on an illegal site i am just saying that comparing aomething that pure fiction to reality doesnt make sense also yea you can get refrence from real people.
