reading the novel rn, all i can say is that her mother is like... written so good in a way it makes u feel so irritated but impressed

okay so im currently at chapter 126 rn and this might not make sense so bear with it hahah


with the current manhwa chapter (ch 27), they went on a trip that is traditionally held by the empirial family, right? and members who attend are engaged or so. since thalia is engaged to her mom’s friend (the count), she attended.

her mother was the one who suggested everything that she should attend since she is now “engaged”, but that engagement is proxy so that she could attend. in the earlier chapters, thalia expressed to her mother that the man she loves (ml) is going to be married in a few months with her half-sister, aila. that was the sole reason that she attended the trip with her mother’s suggestion.

in the middle of the trip, a bunch of fire wyverns attacked them. but those wyverns were hibernating. (in earlier chapters, thalia found out her mother’s servants were acting suspicious and passed a potion to one another.) in my own perpective, her mother drugged or caused the rise of those wyverns.

when the whole team was attacked, the ml had to choose on whether who to save (thalia was saved BUT she ran back to him since she got worried.. i kind of forgot the entire detail so… yeah) in the end, it was either aila or thalia. the ml chose aila since they are engaged and she’s a royal and that’s her duty, yadda yadda. eventually, thalia was attacked and her knight ( who offered her apples in the recent chapter of 27th), panicked. he tried to like convince ml to go back AND IT ACTUALLY pissed me off so bad cause he didn’t.

in the end, thalia became disabled and her whole lower limb got crushed by a bunch of rocks. she couldn’t walk for months but she regained her ability to walk since she was healed by elves.

so, by that— a sense of failure went on the ml. he failed to protect a member of the royal family, therefore, the emperor ordered him to break his engagement with aila and marry thalia instead. this was all planned by fl’s mom.

yes, they did got married it made things messy politically. since Varkas (ml) is a close ally of the crown prince, it all made everything a bit unstable since marrying thalia would mean that varkas supports the 2nd prince.

therefore, aila, should marry the duke of the north. varkas tried to stop this shit since it would really all be messy and stuff (i kinda skimmed on that part) and this made thalia overthink.

thalia’s mother kinda told her that rumors are circulating around the imperial palace that varkas still loves thalia that’s why he’s trying to stop this. this made her overthink a ton… her mother suggested that they should consummate the marriage and bear an heir to the grand duke so that this would solidify the 2nd prince’s power cause if the crown prince becomes the emperor, they all would’ve die and varka’s protection alone doesn’t guarantee her safety (and if they don’t consummate the marriage, varkas could annul the marriage any time…)


also, what really also pissed me off (FOR ME OK) is that how clear their miscommunication is during her first-phase of their marriage. but i guess, given their personality and stuff, it is understandable! thalia was harsh and needed reassurance yet varkas takes her anger alone and doesn’t give her the reassurance she needs. but in fairness, varkas is really caring! or should i say, dutiful?
