I got into bls over 5 years ago and after this long ive start to realize a trend in modern writings compared to times of old. Maybe bc I recently just read the classic ameiro paradox, but that story genuinely felt like a breathe of fresh air compared to all the same old shit ive been reading for so long. Now in days it feels like most writers are more worried on the sexual aspect of the relationship rather than the actual romance part. And believe me I know its not all, but most of the popular bl on this site that ppl go on and on about follow this same exact formula and it’s beginning to get tired. I know back then it wasn’t any better either and I can acknowledge that there were some ones that followed the exact same formula as new age ones today, but it feels like the older ones are more real like the relationship and love itself feels more better then new ones. Idk what are yalls thoughts.
I think I get what you're saying. When there's a BL tagged manhwa, its pretty much going to focus on the romance and the plot is going to be a bonus.
Other genres that centralize let's say for example a crime or whatever may also have a romance going on on the side. While this romance may seem more organic, its almost always a straight couple. I've never seen main couples on other genres who just happen to be gay, you know? That still has to happen in the manga space.
I m reading yaoi for like 8 years I also go back to old yaois cuz I feel sense of security with characters in old yaoi they are relaxing and honest about their feelings new yaoi ain't doing for me as well i always look for old yaois to feel relax and his determined there are many old yaois made me confident enough in myself i don't think today's yaois can make you feel that way Natsuma isaka, Yamamoto kotetsuko , kurahashi tomo, amano ayano , shoko hidaka etc. These mangaka's work has such a big impact on me that I feel happy reading them
