Yeah, I can agree to that. I hate angst and slowburn, but honestly, some stories really just have the character meeting in one chapter and getting together the next. A couple more do make an effort to show the emotions of the MC, but also fail to show why the ML likes him so much as well.

I also hate sex friends -> lovers, but one thing good about the genre is that they have to differentiate "friends" and "lovers", without the physical aspect since that was already present from the start of their sex friendship, nevertheless, I can't read that genre since I despise sex without affection.

One other things commonly occuring in yaoi (im still fired up about the shitshow Kiss me Liar was) is that the one who was RAPED apologises because he was cold to his RAPIST? If the author wanted to make a half assed redemption arc, at least make it a *redemption arc* instead of warping it so the victim has to apologise???

One of the few successful versions of a shit seme but the uke still loves him is "10 Years I Loved you Most" (no comment on the scandel of copyright surrounding it) because it makes the MC acknowledge how bad their relationship is, and how he loves him even though he KNOWS his lover is horrible. ML also accepts he is an utter piece of shit.

"In Your Eyes" was a pretty bad example as well. The MC/ML feelings are motives are incoherent, and they lack any kind of chemistry. ML has sex with the MC knowing that he would only be accepted it the MC is dead drunk, this is never addressed again either, which I think is horrible. I hate it here.

Yup, there's a lot wrong with some of the "popular" yaoi on this website. I'm not saying that it shouldn't be on here or anything like that, just most of the popular ones have the same types of horrible development like a victim having to apologize to their rapist, so therefore i don't think that they should be as popular as they are. Different strokes for different folks I suppose, but those folks seem to be in the majority considering the popularity of those types of stories and the ones that you mentioned are at the top of the list. haha I appreciate how much you wrote to me too, that must have took a while, unless it was already on your mind and needed to vent lol.

The only problem I have with shounen Ai's is that for the most part they are korean manhua's and the art styles are utter garbage, of course there are a few exceptions. And because there are so many of them, they share a lot of the same plot lines, like candy man and my darling signed in, so the content gets a little repetitive, and if you do end up finding one that you like, most times they're ongoing and they are on hiatus and you can't do anything about it and eventually forget about them, or you continue reading them and then you find out half way that you don't like their characters or the story anymore because it was never compelling in the first place, or that the idea of the plot was a lot better than the execution, so you end up dropping it. At least with yaoi, you know that you are going to get some development, considering the physicality aspect falls under the genre.

I wouldn't say yaoi means no story, no meaning, etc. because it is literally just BL with smut, many yaois have great storylines. But I get what you mean, and can agree with that, but there are an abundunce of good yaois out there.
Shounen ai, is just BL without smut, so it doesn't necessarily mean that it is more focused on story/characters. I think why *generally* shounen ai are known for having better stories is because is doens't have the smut to attract people, so if the storyline is garbage, no one would want to read it. In comparison, even if the storyline was trash and full of rape, since there is smut, people would still be inclined to stay and read yaoi anyway. Also, shounen ai have to convey love without sex.

Ahh but shonen ai mangas are pretty good imo. Manhwas maybe not but I have read really great ones. I agree that some of the storylines are repetative .....and predictable and yaoi......I can't really say that they have any development......it's always makeup sex or breakup sex.....again exceptions do exist ╮(￣▽￣)╭

yes yes yes i love Harada! His/Her works are like a social commentary on the human condition. Most of the bl's I read are just different context/theme/scenario/settings but with Harada's work it's like there's something so real about the characters and every story is in a completely different mental space or occupation or lack of occupation which just shows Harada's range for story telling.

Which reminds me, if you like Caste Heaven then you'll like this one called Dead Lock but unfortunately it's unfinished. It has a real good story.
