Ughhh, this was so good. I’ll always consider Unsleep one of my comfort BLs and definitely one I’ll come back to and reread whenever I need something comforting.

What I loved the most was Lee Seung-hyeon and Seo Chaejun’s relationship. They have so much respect for each other, and once their relationship develops, they are such a major green-flag, healthy couple. You can genuinely tell how much they care about each other through their actions and words.

And the emotional responsibility and communication! There was never some long, frustrating miscommunication arc where they refused to tell each other how they felt. They actually talked. Even when they were upset, insecure, or struggling with something, they didn’t just run away from each other. They made a promise that they would always try to work things out and talk through their problems. And they actually followed through with it. I loved that so much.

Their chemistry was also INSANE.

And listen… the smut… TOP TIER. If this were an Omegaverse, Seung-hyeon’s ass would’ve been pregnant multiple times by the end of this story. I also loved the little details like Chaejun doing aftercare for Seung-hyeon, cleaning him up afterward, being gentle with him, and constantly making sure he was comfortable and safe. Those moments made their intimacy feel like an extension of how much they cared about each other rather than something separate from their relationship.

The character development was another thing I really loved. You can slowly see both of them growing throughout the story. Seung-hyeon especially is very aware of the fact that he tends to spiral, overthink, and immediately assume the worst. But instead of the story magically making that disappear, you actually see him recognize it and try to work on it.

And I love how Chaejun doesn’t expect Seung-hyeon to become some completely different person. He reassures him that he likes him the way he is and makes him feel safe and comfortable being himself. At the same time, Seung-hyeon gives Chaejun that same sense of comfort and security. They really become each other’s safe place.

Then you have all the comedy and adorable chibi scenes mixed in. They’re seriously just two idiots completely in love with each other, and watching them bicker one minute and be ridiculously sweet the next was one of my favorite parts of the story.

I really hope we get side stories because I’M NOT READY TO LET THEM GO. I especially want to see their Canada trip and more of their life together afterward. I also really want to see Chaejun’s insomnia/sleepless nights explored more and hopefully see him find a better long-term solution and continue healing.

Overall, Unsleep gave me pretty much everything I want from a BL: amazing chemistry, actual communication, mutual respect, emotional growth, a healthy relationship, hilarious moments, adorable chibis, great intimacy, and two characters who genuinely make each other feel loved and safe.

They’re my comfort couple now.

This story is PMO these two have literally NO communication skills whatsoever and somehow always manage to do the exact opposite of what the other person actually wants. The alpha keeps being rude asf to the damn beta, constantly going on about “beta relationships” and “what betas like” and how he can’t do any of that stuff for him. Then he’s offering to find him someone else to sleep with like he’s doing him some kind of favor??? SIR???

And don’t even get me started on when he was “sleeping with the unknown omega” WHO WAS ACTUALLY THE BETA THE WHOLE TIME because the alpha was saying some hurtful ass shit during that too!! Like this man cannot open his mouth without emotionally damaging Gi-hyeon.

Meanwhile Gi-hyeon is walking on eggshells around him 24/7. He’s so scared of upsetting Yeon-oh that he isn’t even sleeping properly most nights and can’t communicate what he’s actually feeling or thinking. He just keeps swallowing everything and suffering in silence while Yeon-oh makes assumptions about what he wants instead of simply ASKING HIM.

I’m genuinely confused how these two even started dating because WHAT RELATIONSHIP??? They’ve been childhood friends forever and somehow know absolutely nothing about how to communicate with each other. Yeon-oh rejects and humiliates him over being a beta, agrees to date him anyway, continues reminding him of all the things he supposedly can’t give him, and then basically pushes him toward other people. And Gi-hyeon just takes it because he’s terrified of losing him. This is exhausting.

At first I was gonna say maybe the alpha’s behavior is a trauma thing because of his dad and that’s why he has such a warped view of relationships. But then he mentions he’s never done it with a beta and especially never a man, so never mind?? That makes it sound like he’s been with an omega before. Either way, even if some of this IS because of trauma, COMMUNICATE FFS.

AND NOW after all of this we’ve got a beta who became an omega, is PREGNANT, and is RUNNING AWAY and somehow there has still been approximately ZERO communication progress between these mfs. We have changed secondary genders, pregnant and entered the chasing / stalking arc before having ONE productive conversation.
