My guess is the author has pedophilic inclinations but recognize it's not love if the person is too young to consent. So they started with the setting they fantasize about (mature adult x young teenager) and then did the time skip to bring MC to an acceptable age. It's a weird hybrid were you can pretend the time skip didn't happen to have them at the desired age while simultaneously having real consent because truly they're now both adults.
That's what I think, I could be wrong.
Honestly tho, if I'm right, while it is not my cup of tea I respect it because the beauty of fiction is to be able to ignore reality's rules.
In fiction there's a discrepancy that come from characters being able to have mutually exclusive personality traits like being loving and caring while being obsessive and possessive.
You cannot love someone you're obsessing over because you can't even love them enough to respect their boundaries, you cannot be caring if you don't care about their self-ownership.
In reality raping someone is proof you don't love them because nobody could do something that horrific and violent to someone they love. Rape is not loving the person, it's loving the control and power. It's also why castrating rapists often backfire and can make them more violent and deadly because their goal was always power tripping, sex was just a thrilling bonus. Rape isn't the result of being too horny so taking the horny away doesn't solve the problem.
In fiction however a character can rape someone they truly love because you can remove the self-centered focus they'd need in reality and replace it with fondness and desire toward the character instead of their body.
In the same line, in fiction a pedophile can truly be in love with a child because you can remove the reality that they'd lose interest in the object of their lust once the body reached maturity. Case and point Griz still loving MC as an adult.
However that doesn't justify romanticizing acting upon those feelings. While you can turn them into true love acts from the perpetrators by using an unrealistic mental reasoning, it doesn't make them not an attack on the victims and as such should always be presented as what they still are : violence. The victims should never be presented as secretly desiring it, demanding it or enjoying it, especially if we're talking about children and teenager. Either stand by the violence you wrote or don't write about it at all, you can change the meaning behind it but you can't change the violence of it.
In that sense this manga is ok, again I really don't like it either but the author didn't make Griz assault a child or put them together before both were adults so it didn't present pursuing children as acceptable. And luckily since there was a time skip separation we avoided falling into grooming. (The unfortunate "I wrote grooming by trying to avoid pedophilia")
Griz is a pedo. But that's not a problem as long as he doesn't act on it nor plan to. It's a turn off tho.

i think you really got to the bottom of why rape by the ml feels so romanticized in manhwa/manga. while yes part of it is that victim forgives the rapist immediately with no repercussion, has no psychological issues, and some how ends up enjoying the rape (which is so far removed from reality and just reinforces rape culture). but i feel like that focuses too much on the victim and not on the core reason of what's really romanticizing rape between couples. it's exactly what you said about the motive of the rapist-- love and def not wanting complete control of their partner.

He just has his own set of rules in his head and operates based on them, having absolutely no clue how things actually work—because this whole area is *so far* outside his realm of expertise. Anyway, don't be too hard on the ML; he's inexperienced as a baby
