instead of feeling mad, im actually really sad. im sad that this type of dating is so normalized even in fiction its depicted so accurately. i really do feel for the main girl cuz shes delusional and i cant feel angry at her because i know so many that were in her position including myself. and as much as you reason with yourself that maybe that person can make an exception for you. its not going to happen.
and we can also see that in current dating culture too, we see a lot of "ugly" or "normal" looking men being more attractive than more physically fit or conventionally attractive because these types of guys know the bare minimum. which was pointed out when the friends first met him.
main girl's friends have their fault too, but they come from a different culture although i don't agree with it maybe thats how they typically confront others. so im not too critical on that. but i will have to say that, i hope they dont end up together. situationships and casual dating will be the end of us because people who are genuinely finding love and companionship are always hindered by ugly degrading casual daters that need to grow up emotionally.
it's getting really weird to think that everyone should grow a backbone albeit fictional or not, but i think there's a lack of empathy towards a character when they are portrayed as weak, readers often want them to "stand up for themselves" that doesn't necessarily make a good character. if every protagonist was like that then media would get boring.
there's plenty of other literature and media that shows that, and i dont care that this one isn't like that. i question a reader's lack of nuance when they immediately complain about how a character acts especially when its still the beginning of the story
