If you're following the Disney version they just liked the contrast. The original story doesn't even say what the looked like, the step mother and sisters cut off parts of their feet, had their eyes plucked out by ravens, and had to dance in hot iron shoes until the day they died. So somehow I don't think it really matters what any of them look like, since this is nothing like the original story.
