This was a really good read for me. I normally get bored quickly but the even if the plot feels familiar the events are not cliche. Read the whole thing in a day deff recommend!! Also I like that our main character yes is not really good at much (which is realistic) but is not actively seeking help and crying every time like the pathetic trope so it was just very refreshing! Also the parts where she portrayed her hate toward him like smiling when he is suffering etc not being the perfect person was good to see.
Can’t believe people are still reading this. Dan tried to leave multiple times this is just messed up he is like brainwashed from getting graped so much Can someone write a better ending please! Where Dan leaves this guy and lives somewhere else
If you don’t agree with me watch this person explaining it stop being in denial please https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VUj7l68y7eM&t=825s
I’m responding at length because this topic deserves nuance, not soundbites … so this is LONG .
I saw this full video and while the logistics of the law and consent were laid out very clearly and the details of the glorification of violence was considered as well as the expectation of romance and all can become irrational even with works of fiction and can glorify violence in a sense .while all that was spelled out , I still don’t agree with your comment .
And I can understand why Jinx is controversial, and those conversations are valid. At the same time, it still resonates with me emotionally, and I’m allowed to enjoy a flawed story. I’ve seen movies with rape and thought dang what a good movie but never once thought rape was good or okay .
Loving Jinx doesn’t mean I romanticize the harm in it. It means I’m engaging with a complex, messy piece of fiction that made me feel something. People can enjoy Jinx without endorsing the harm in it. Psychology shows that intense fiction triggers emotional arousal and catharsis, and people are often drawn to stories that let them safely explore dark themes, power dynamics, and trauma without acting them out in real life. Liking a story ≠ approving the behavior.
Also right now we have real life issues in the world like genocide in Gaza and ICE destroying families and communities in real life . Authoritarian governments and regimes growing in power in the last couple of years . The least of your worries should be a dark romance manga with adult themes enjoyed on an online website full of much more disturbing porn.
You remind me of girls who talk about the over sexualization of Asian woman and then try to stop others from enjoying Asian styles ; like who talk to other girls about “not putting on fox eye makeup “ because it mimics Asian eyes and is used as a sexual symbol. But refuse to acknowledge the biggest issue in that entire conversation. You are putting the responsibility of sexuality and attraction on woman when we are the VICTIMS . Instead of holding accountable the men and perverts who make repulsive rape porn of young Asian girls accountable for their crimes. I’m Mexican but my Asian best friend wore Latina makeup and I often loved my fox eye makeup which I’d done since before it was even popular . Yet suddenly I’m sexualizing young Asian girls because fashion magazines chose it as Americas top 5 sexy looks !!! And the latest plastic surgery trend !!!
But then when I did my internship for my degree and spoke to human trafficking victims about it , they personally told me that eye makeup , that surgeries… that all that crap meant nothing to people who committed these crimes . They kidnapped children , cut off genitals, and any resistance would be met with repeated violence and rape that went nonstop until you were likely to die of an infection or worse - live and repeat the process that made you wish for death , and she was shocked that some random teenager talked about eye makeup as if she had all the answers or if that mattered at all in the grand scheme of things . Look up the “what they were wearing “museum and you’ll learn that real life harmful crap isn’t something you’re gonna be taught on a YouTube post about manga psychology.
You lack discernment about what is actually important .
Like a mom that tells her daughter who is a young 8 year old dancer that she can’t wear crop tops , because OTHERS will sexualize her . Only to basically be the first person in her daughter life to sexualize her . She’s a child . She could be naked and nobody should be looking her way period !! But instead of realizing that a harmful pedo doesn’t care what she wears as some have even been known to rape babies , she instead police’s her daughter , to become aware of her sexuality and sexual presence as a victim of possible circumstance instead of holding those responsible and accountable for the actual acts of their crime .
The truth is nudity is freedom. Sex is love and respect. And only those who commit evil acts with deep harmful intentions are to be dealt with accordingly .
My point is your blaming the wrong people here and your actions prove that you are wrongly concerned about the wrong thing .The problem isn’t why we love Jinx despite its dark tone—it’s the moral panic that blames fiction and its readers instead of understanding how people psychologically process dark themes through catharsis, while society continues to misdirect outrage away from real perpetrators, systemic violence, and the structures that enable harm in the real world, a strange moral panic that treats readers as a threat instead , while actual abusers remain untouched .
You’re barking up the wrong tree .
This concludes my response .
Girl you very clearly lack the intelligence to delve into this topic matter…
The issue isn’t whether you personally endorse rape, it’s whether the story frames sexual violence as erotic, romantic, or desirable, which Jinx does…repeatedly. When a story sexualizes abuse, minimizes consent, and rewards the abuser with romance, consuming it does participate in normalizing that framing, even if you say you don’t support it in real life. Emotional resonance isn’t morally neutral.
Also bringing up Gaza, ICE, and authoritarianism is fucking ridiculous. Multiple harms can matter at once. I could spin that logic back on you and ask why defend a manhwa that glorifies rape when sexual violence is a real, ongoing issue affecting people every day? Why not direct your energy towards helping victims if you care so much?
I’m not even gonna mention the mention of sexualization of Asian girls because…? Why did you bring that up? Why on god’s green earth would you project that onto a random commenter who is simply speaking about how Jinx is romanticizing rape? If anything, you, the person who is defending said rape manwha) are way more likely to speak over the sexualization of Asian girls, you weirdo!
You’re allowed to consume whatever slop you want, but people are also allowed to point out that Jinx eroticizes sexual violence…you sound dumb. Also did you seriously use chatgpt to write that last part…? GIRL…
Its like our parents in 90s, if you play violent videogames youre gonna act on such scenes in real life... you dont seem to make sense to me. When you say reading a novel that romanticizes rape is wrong, are you trying to show how much more value you have above the rest of us who are reading the story? Ok, you are above everyone else! A lit star for you. Congrats to you my friend, even after all this time you say youre entitled to come here and tell us how wrong we are, so Im also allowed to say go fuxx youself and your entitlement
First off, drop the “you’re dumb” angle — disagreement ≠ lack of intelligence, so let’s be serious.
First of all , You’re right that the conversation is about framing, not whether I personally endorse rape. Jinx absolutely uses eroticized framing, blurred consent, and reward-through-romance — that critique is legit an and VALIDDDD . I’ve never denied that! Where we disagree is the idea that consuming a text automatically equals participating in its normalization…. I DISAGREE!!
I was attempting to explain in the other comment with the other person , that people engage with dark, problematic fiction all the time without absorbing it as a value system for themselves . Emotional response isn’t morally neutral, TRUE — but it’s also not automatically endorsement for fucked behavior! Media psychology literally distinguishes between representation, interpretation, and real-world behavior. And that gap matters because of that reality .
The reason I was bringing up Gaza/ICE/etc wasn’t a “only one harm matters” argument , it was pointing out how misdirected af outrage often gets aimed at consumers , instead of structures, industries, or actual perpetrators .
By the way this isn’t chat gpt … I’m also not just “GIRL” , I’m 31 and married with a college degree . So perhaps it’s just the fact that I got my degree in communications and journalism that it sounds educated ? So you need to take several seats . I do have a grammar corrector on my phone so you can clock me on that . Hooray two points for you !
I don’t care which supposed A.I you think I used … I didn’t . I’m also aware I could claim I was a rocket scientist who’s been to Jupiter and it would hold the same value because this is the internet so nothing and everything can be false or true , but I’m trying to be honest and explain in detail who I am , the best that I can, without breaking too much internet etiquette… but it is what it is. I can’t force you to believe any one thing … so … Moving on …..
As I was explaining, multiple harms can coexist at the same time , but focusing blame on readers has historically done nothing to reduce real-world sexual violence… is this clear ????!?! , and therefore leaves the question as to why do this … why post shame aimed comments at strangers who do participate in reading such content? I don’t blame them ( the original commenter ) for trying to illuminate the audience but honestly they were just trying to shame everyone reading this into submission , in which case .. I DO blame them for that .
As for the Asian sexualization point …it wasn’t any strange projection ! Thought you may want it to be so it’s easier to paint me as the bad guy . But ! It’s about how these conversations keep turning into “don’t do fox-eye makeup” or “this aesthetic is the problem,” like , as if an eyeliner shape is what sexualizes Asian women. And that is incorrect !! That’s shallow and misses the point. I didn’t bring it up to project or be out of pocket .
Asian women weren’t sexualized because of makeup trends , it comes from long-standing systems like militarized prostitution, red-light districts, porn industries using human trafficking victims to film, the objectification of woman as sub-human through subservience and marriage laws , and rape culture ( that sees men as victims of their desires and woman’s safety as a unfortunate secondary factor ) that reality predates TikTok and manga and any dark content on here by decades and even CENTURIES . Blaming an aesthetic(like Asian makeup girl ) or individual consumption of dark romance stories(like the commenter & you did) , lets those systems off the hook!
This is what I’m trying to explain .
Which is why I mentioned it in the first place ! So stop trying to shove my example into the random void because it’s not a projection or random .
So yeah, I brought it up because reducing sexualization to vibes or makeup choices or reading content is way easier than actually talking about power, exploitation, and who benefits from it .If you didn’t take your time to read , I spoke strictly from my time in my internship and what I heard from the mouth of those who have been in bad positions . So I DID help people . And I DID put my energy into that . I donated money , I’ve protested for everything and was “a woke liberal “ before it was popularly used as a rude insult on FOX news , I marched with the woman’s march , Black Lives Matter , lgbtqai , and anti -Ice protest, as well as help place human trafficking victims in safe homes during transitions. I admit I don’t do as much anymore but that’s because I was hospitalized after my miscarriage and decided to rest at home after. I spend my days reading again which is why I picked up Jinx and a few other stories in the first place . Anyway …
My internship and what the woman told me .. It was suppose to relay a real life experience from a real life person . If that didn’t land, fine, but it wasn’t some random projection. Girlllll.
You’re allowed to critique Jinx and call its framing harmful… okay ... Just like I’m allowed to engage with it critically without that meaning I’m pro-rape or “glorifying abuse.” Both things can be true at once. But acting like nuance equals complicity is just moral panic with better vocabulary, and posting on here “why are you all still reading this ! Validating it ! Or whatever else , You’re basically calling all the readers fucked up somehow or uneducated for not understanding its harmful narrative , and framing yourself as the morally superior person . What that other commenter did was just that , which is why I felt compelled to answer them . Then you also commented so here we go …
I hope you honestly just understand that the main issue here with comment #1 was the unnecessary virtue signaling and rude shame to consumers who are literally just reading stories . And the problem with your comment , comment #2, is that you didn’t want to do anything but frame me as a problem just like you were so quick to talk about the framing issues of the story and how you framed it’s reading as a normalization . Which it’s not .
If this isn’t clear I will make my next one shorter and even simpler . Whatever helps get the message across .
Let me clear up one thing first. I didn’t say you used ChatGPT because you “sounded educated.” I said it because your writing is stylistically inconsistent and it shifts between structured, polished argumentation and then jumps into disorganized rambly sections. The repeated “it’s not just X, it’s Y” phrasing is also a a really common AI-style pattern. That was an observation about writing patterns, not your intelligence or education…
As for the main issue, I’m not saying that reading Jinx makes someone pro-rape or immoral. The point is about impact, not intent. People can engage critically with media and still be part of a larger cultural pattern where certain narratives get normalized through popularity and repetition.
Representation doesn’t automatically equal behavior, but it does influence norms over time, especially when harmful acts are eroticized and rewarded. Jinx doesn’t just depict abuse because it frames sexual violence through a lens of smut and romance. That’s way different from dark fiction that interrogates harm or centers consequences, and it’s fair to criticize that framing.
This isn’t an “only one harm matters” argument. Cultural normalization and structural violence are connected. Critiquing media consumption doesn’t detract from fighting larger systems and culture is one way those systems persist. I don’t really care if it’s virtue signaling, because you’re the one who
made the long ass comment to defend this rape manwha in the first place. I’m here too, I’m not a saint girl. Like I said, read whatever you want, but not everything needs to be defended or reframed as ethically complex. Be a weird gooner in peace.
Guys stop hating on woojin geez we didn't even get his side of the story everyone could've had past relationships either it's just sexually or not. He didn't know wud happen to the ml. Surely they will talk these problems out at some point
Lmao, why would you stop us from hating a toxic ass character? You can just say you like Woojin and get over it, why force your opinion on others. Also, Woojin, wether you say he's not, he is a toxic character, so we have the right to hate him, look at how his personality and weird ass damages Haegyung's mentality, like bruh, what's there to like?
I mean u are the one who's forcing ur you're opinion on me to not like him in the first place by replying to this and trying to prove me wrong so why bother try to explain something to me that ur doing?? I'm putting my opinion like everyone else that doesn't likes or likes it.U can like it and agree if not u can just ignore it uk ??If u would say everyone is forcing their thoughts on the internet which is full of other different opinions doesn't that make u the forcing one??Also I don't really get what yr trying to explain bruh. It's woojins grandpas fault, he didn't know what happened properly, everyone can have past relationships, Haegyung said he couldn't forget about woojin and he still likes him anyway
Pfft, that's ironic. So you define "forcing your opinions on others" as basically expressing your opinion onto others, yet you come here and reply and basically express your opinion on what I said? Tf? And no, I wasn't "forcing my opinion on you" like what you said and did anyway, I came here and tell you to stop forcing your opinion on us like for example, telling us to "stop hating on woojin blah blah" and to add to that, I told you my reasoning on why I hate woojin and am allowed to do so, I WASN'T "FORCING MY OPINION ON YOU", know the difference
Also, yes, it is mostly Woojin's granpa's fault, but bitch, do you not see how Woojin's acting? HE ALMOST RAPED HAEGYUNG BECAUSE OF HIS PRIDE AND REVENGE?! Like you really think Woojin isn't a toxic ass character?? And HAEGYUNG ALREADY EXPLAINED!! Yet this motherfucker wouldn't listen to him and continue on his plan to get back at Haegyung, WHO FOR ONE HAD NO CHOICE, THAT'S WHY HE DID WHAT HE DID, if he can't even understand that, what makes you think he's still a reedemable character? HE'S FUCKING IMMATURE, HE NEEDS TO GET HIS HEAD OUT OFF HIS ASS, AND KNOW WHAT HARDSHIPS HAEGYUNG HAD TO GO THROUGH, JUST FOR HIM TO PLAN ON GETTING BACK AT HIM!!
Honeyyyyyyyyyy this is just a webtoon chill lmao Literally ur the only one who's being immature getting so worked out about every little thing and trying to force ur dam opinion on me like everything u think is right? 6 people liked my comment are u gonna go call them bitches while making other useless arguments?? If u don't like it simply dislike my comment Stop being such a pushover cuz honestly the only person who's being toxic rn is not woojin anymore it's u. They both made mistakes and if he still wants to be with woojin and has feelings for him u can't really blame innit?? Just leave the argument as it is rn cuz ur just being extra extra serious and going over the respecting other comments line for no reason at all.
Lmfaoooo gurl, I wasn't calling you a bitch, that was my expression, like when you say "miss gurl" "bestie" " "my guy" something like that lmao. And again, I wasn't the one who "forced my opinion" I was just defending me and other people's asses cause someone like you had to say "oh don't hate on woojin you don't know his story yet, oh we haven't seen his side yet, oh they can talk about there problems blah blah" and maybe you weren't "forcing your opinion," but you were telling us how to feel about Woojin, and that pissed me off, which in defense I told you that stuff and my OPINION on WHY WE CAN HATE HIM, I WASN'T forcing no nothin'. So don't be calling me a karen cause gurllll, if there was a karen here, that would be you
Ohhh, so now that i'm worked up, you're calling me immature?! Hold up, are you still mad about me calling you a bitch?(which I really did not mean you, believe me or not) cause that does not mean me forcing my opinion on you, I was well, AGGRESSIVELY expressing my opinion, you see the capslock? Right, I put that there on purpose so that I could get it in your skull on why I think your thoughts on Woojin is so unrealisticly stupid. But I guess it didn't work cause now you think I called you a bitch and i'm supposedly getting worked up because of the capslock, but yk what, you probably didn't read my replies properly since yoy think they're "useless arguments", but i'm gonna keep up with this useless arguments anyway since I still can't get past your "woojin is not toxic" stage, and no, this is not me forcing my opinion on you, this is me trying to convince you to change your opinion until I give up.
They both made mistakes? Lmao, what mistake exactly did Haegyung did? Get out of contact with Woojin cause his grandfather threatened him and his family a shitty life, which Woojin wouldn't know the feeling of cause he's a spoiled motherfucker who has lived his entire life getting what he wants? Is that Haegyung's fault? NO, so Haegyung still havinv feelings for Woojin doesn't erase the fact that that motherfucker, 1. Almost raped Haegyung 2. Is planning a revenge plan or some shit cause he's a whiny bitch and 3. Doesn't give a fuck on what Haegyung had gone through because of his shitty ass granpa, all he cared about was his wittle feelings that got hurt which makes him a TOXIC motherfucker, so yes, if you still don't agree with me, then go to therapy ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
Also, i'm the toxic one for expressing my opinions on a toxic character? Lmao, what a mindset you have. And the reason i'm doing this, is because i'm afraid that someone like you, is going to normalize that kind of stuff even in real life, i'm trying to EDUCATE you cause I feel like you're a kid, especially since you said "it's just a webtoon" which it is, but having a mindset like yours defending an obvious toxic character is harmful af (it's called 18+ for a reason) some kids normalize that shit and that's fucked up, so if your an adult, then sweetie, that's embarrasing.

Idk if I read too much yaoi but this was not that sad for me to cry but really good story though
