They end up together T-T anyways if you want more spoilers (btw some1 commented all of this so if you want more details I don't think I would be able to tell you cause I haven't read the novel), the stress and his disease made him blind (so he cannot write anymore, which was the thing he was good at), last time qiyu comes and threatens his family's life unless he admits he was the one who poisoned the emperor. He admits when his family is threatened even tho it wasnt his fault but he still has to say what was the poison. I dont remember if it was Pei or his doctor friend that came to visit in jail, but Liqing asked that person to find the poison and described everything he remembers about the peaches (basically they had a specific smell). That person finds out that its a plant or something from western regions and gets activated by alcohol which is why Hu nuer eating the peaches did nothing (and i also think it was the box and not the peaches cuz Qiyu saw hu nuer prepare the peachers but i dont remember exactly). But yea since it was from western regions (+ i think it was said that only western people would know about it), there was no way Liqing would know about it.
Liqing is released ofc, and does everything to avoid qiyu, but qiyu feels guilty and asks to forgive, etc. At some point, Liqing clears the mansion of his belongings, so when he leaves Qiyu doesnt have anything to remind him of liqing and he burns the things he doesnt want to take with when he goes back to song mansion.
This song and dance continues till the end, its so ass, and they get together at the very end basically cuz qiyu was persistent. The author supposedly tries to show "how he has changed" but he still does the same stuff but in different font.
oh and btw they have a kid technically cuz liqing passed out when he was coming back after he escorted Pei to leave to his country (this was after the torture when he had moved to song), some scholars found him and i think tossed him in a casket(?) (again it is translated badly so take all of this with a grain of salt). Those scholars were jelaous of him and wanted to win some prize or something. In the casket there was a dead pregnant woman and she gave birth to a baby and it was alive when liqing came to.
