Please tell that the sister gets brain cancer or something. I don't even remember the last time I've seen such an unbearably annoying character in a manga.
The artwork is lovely, but the story is horribly paced and poorly structured, the dialogue is meaningless, and the characters have no weight to them at all. Pretty bad so far, all in all.
The Nack and Mina subplot is creepy as hell. She tortures him for years to the point of nearly killing him multiple times over, but as soon as their fight is over he immediately "forgives" her, and goes right back to his abuser. It's like some horrifying reverse battered wife tale.
Well, Nack never hold anything against her even when she did what she did. It just shows about that while paying back is satisfying and tempting for some, it's not the only way to move on from difficult times. Not an amazing subplot, but it's okay
I don't quite know how much I like the story yet, it feels a little disjointed and rushed, but the main character is great. Guess I'll give it a few more chapters.
Definitely one of the most well-written isekai I've read in a while. It has great worldbuilding, believable and fairly deep characters, excellent art, a good level of political intrigue and fleshed out interactions between characters without becoming too complex/exhausting, and it even manages to sprinkle in some good action here and there.
Oh, ffs. Every time I find an interesting manga it's so new there's barely enough for 15 minutes of reading.

It's somewhat frustrating that the main character is so sharp and skeptical around every single character in the series, but for some reason (plot convenience?) has a massive blind spot when it comes to the demon priest girl. It would have been easy for the character to simply turn her down and earn back the money he owes her on his own, but instead he's somehow drawn to a character with little to no redeeming personality to the point where he essentially lets her walk all over him.
So far I've read the LN until vol 6 (will read the rest later). If Lapis really wanted him to be full of dept, the sword alone if enough, by witch I mean, iits value is so astronomical that he would never be able to pay it back even in several life times.
This sword is actually Lapis's father sword, witch she took(for some rebelious revenge sake) and made a deal with the shopkeeper to hold until she come to take it back (while giving the shopkeeper a few gold coin (the fake price they "bought" it)), and the other equipements included.
And honestly, so far I really like their dynamic and characters (along with Sena, yes ,she's a major character in story).
Going back to the last part of your comment, yes it seem that way for now, because he know that at his adv rank(bronze) , he won't get anything at all, and it will take him a long time to pay back. Should also add in the fact she actually doesn't really care about the money, she just to want a reliable/decent person as partner in her search of her parts (and he knows that) ,he fits the requirement and he doesn't have much to do as well. But that will be for the later.
True. Honestly I like the chemistry and dynamic between Loren and Lapis. If they turn out to be love interests then hell, I'd be deep INTO IT. (I hope they do end up together and that they find reliable and trustworthy teammates) :3
it's not a blind spot- it's about the fact that she is reliable, helpful, and calm. she also doesn't have baggage like a home or dependents or reputation. she isn't super reactive or emotional and he's able to plainly discuss matters with her without managing her behavior. she consistently manages the situation well and provides support to him without panic and she wont falter when he needs it.
that is super important in a companion and brings trust, especially since they fight with lives on the line. His debt thing started out as an obvious excuse and it is more of a kindness of a good person rather than something he is being exploited for. He knows no one can hold him to that, it's his choice to do it or not. He would protect her anyway because the more time you spend with someone compatible the more you grow attached and he's not a bastard who's throw her under the bus.
He lost everyone he ever knew and has nothing and no one- she's a perfect companion for his needs and those qualities in someone without baggage are a rare find. honestly people having emotions all over the place is so unhelpful when you are struggling, I would also find her reliable. He obviously doesn't trust her completely but she has shown plenty of skill that makes her worth the risk of trying to gain her trust.
Could have been a few chapters shorter, maybe. Overall it feels like watching a deep sea/space thriller/horror movie, like Event Horizon, Pandorum, Deep Blue Sea, etc., but with a bit of a Lovecraftian spin on it. Very gory, very dark (both visually and subject-wise), and very claustrophobic.
It makes me so sad that "ecchi isekai trash series number 936" gets to live on, while series like "The Wolf Won't Sleep" get axed after 16 chapters.
Starts out pretty good, but completely loses steam around chapter 5.
