I can't be the only one who liked the ending actually?

    Anonymous March 5, 2018 3:18 am

Me too. I think it's a good ending pity it just end too soon. I really like the author style.

    Mr E March 5, 2018 3:52 am

I think pairing Ayeon x Sohwa is cute. They are a perfect match and will make a lovely couple.

    g March 5, 2018 5:31 pm

It was a good ending, if a bit rushed. Not good in the sense that everyone is happy, but that it resolved pretty much every plot. I'm glad that the big sister decided to help and support Sohwa and Ayeon, because those two really had a bad time. Dahye and her cronies will likely never be punished bit at least she isn't quite so unscathed. I feel sorry for Glasses because she is back to square one. Predictably Yeohwa isn't bothered even a little bit by her situation, but what do you want to do. She is a sociopath and there isn't much one can do about her.

I think you got some of the names mixed up haha^^ Minhye Unnie helps Sohwa and Yoonseo. Glasses girl is Ayeon Song ( If I'm correct ). Either way, I agree with what you're saying. The ending was a tad rushed considering Lezhin seems to pressure and rush authors into finishing their works, but as far as punishments go; I'm satisfied. Dahye was fucked up, and her posse were pretty insignificantly involved when you consider how weak as characters they come across as - they almost seemed like side characters, so for them to not REALLY have many repercussions in the end seems fitting. Morally, Dahye, as the bully SHOULD have seen more consequences. But then you have to weigh up; bullying and being a bit manipulative when compared to a psychopathic girl. In the end, Dahye was almost a hero - of course we know her not to be. I really liked that she showed signs of PTSD when remembering what Yeonwha had done, though I don't stand by what Yeonwha did as a character, it's a nice character development for such a 'perfect' but very obviously broken girl. So as far as it goes with people complaining about Dahye not being punished enough, naw man. She endured something that fucked her up a lot more than her father's pressure, she locked away a psychopath and ruined her life - much like Yeonwha had done for her. Watching Dahye be broken as a character and slowly watch everything just tick backwards into place was super cool too! It showed that people were comfortable with the way they were - these people, no matter what, just weren't capable of the change they probably should have taken. But we see that there IS change in Dahye after her experiences, unlike a lot of the characters. That's perhaps why she's one of my favourites from this yuri - if not my favourite.
As far as Dahye's older sister goes as well, I'm on the fence. I loved her character throughout the whole of this; being torn between what she knows is right and what she has to do to make her sister happy. Sometimes they wouldn't work hand-in-hand. In a sense, she's a massive pushover. She's very intelligent, as the story suggests, but she gets herself caught up in business she probably could've avoided - yet it's not in her nature to overlook it. I feel BAD for Minhye, because she really does care for people. She's one of the most human characters in the story and she cleans up the mess after her sister, even after all of it's 'over'. I think she pities Yoonseo badly for her (probably neglect-induced) attachment to anyone. I almost wanted to see Yoonseo develop like she had with Ayeon - in which she slowly realises for herself that she can DO things. But that's quickly taken away from her by Dayhe.
Ayeon? I didn't like her much on the whole, she was plain. BUT I'm relieved she ended up not being a cliche of falling in mad love with Yeonhwa like Yoonseo had. I think the author really knows how to write characters sensibly, and not make their characters do things to aid the story, but instead to show an accuracy to real complex personalities.
But the one ending people seemed to H A T E was how Yeonhwa ended up. But instead I adore it?? It shows that she manipulates and has the world wrapped around her pinkie finger, even in prison. It's like she's bathing in it. She's rightly convicted - which doesn't often happen in stories like these. I think authors are too scared to rid of their characters. But her ending of "I'm getting bored of this" seemed to open a doorway to a further book on what happens to her?? Or I'm goddamn hoping. I want some sort of awesome but fucked up break out or something. It would be cliche but it'd be a nice addition - I doubt it. But I like HER ending so much, because her messed up personality shines through even in her circumstances <3 She's B O R E D of being cherished by these prison women. At the end of the day, she still wants Sohwa. I can't see her ever changing.

ANYWAY IF YOU EVEN READ THIS IM SORRY FOR THIS ABSOLUTE RAMBLE!!!!

    Perfect ramble is Perfect. Damn,
And yes, I probably mixed up the names.
Dahye is in a lot of ways the driving force behind this manga. Almost all the events are directly or indirectly caused by her. She is a pretty powerful characters story-wise and a well executed anti-hero. She hadn't altruistic reasons for getting Yeohwa institutionalized, but in the end her actions had positive effects for a lot of people.
And I think that at the end of the manhwa Dahye not only has PTSD but her whole persona that has been eroded.
From what Minhye says in the last chapters I think that she is having a lot of problems copying with what happened to her. In a way what you said is completely right. Dahye may have managed to get Yeohwa locked up, but she too is "locked up" now, if only emotionally. ANd yeah, she is pretty much the only character that we see visibly change, so that opens up a lot of possibilities for the future and how her character will evolve.
And well, for the people that says that she has not been punished enough, damn, what should happen to her? IRL she she should make up to her victims ( Ayeon, Yoonseo and laterally Sohwa), but from our point of view ( the readers) I think she suffered more than enough.

Minhye as a charactar is not very dynamic, but she is very relatable and very conflicted. She has to watch while her sister (who she probably feels responsible for ) go down the wrong road and hurt innocente people and she can do nothing. Then she has to watch the aftermath of her sister being repeatedly raped. She is a bit of a pushover, but in the end I think that she feels very lost. And in the end she is the one that tries to right the wrongs that happened. Yeah, I too think that she pities Yoonseo ( and Sohwa), but I do wonder how Yoonseo could develop after this shitshow. I really would have liked her to develop more agency but I guess it was impossible for her at this stage.
Sohwa, I like, but we really saw little of her. She seemed pretty resilient for her age. I mean, being molested by her beloved sister and having to live on the street... that's pretty rough for a teenager, even counting in the church's help. Althrough she was basically tha catalyst of the events that lead to Yeohwa getting caught.

Yeah, strangely Ayeon was pretty inconsequent as a character. She is the new objective of Yeohwa ( I think that maybe Yeohwa saw her as a substitute for her sister) and the victim of Dahye and her posse. And that's pretty much it. I wonder if the author had something in mind for her. I really don't think that Yeohwa could have the same relationship with her as she had with Yoonseo and while her character allowed the reader to see another side of Yeohwa ( namely the gentle and kind mask she uses when she wants to lure her prey to her) , she didn't have much of an impact on the story even if she was in almost every chapter.

I pretty much agree with you on Yeohwa. I don't know, maybe a lot of readers empathized with her ( since she "defended" first Yoonseo and then Ayeon from the bullies) so they are not happy to see her lose, but I was cheering when the police arrived. And from her pov, she got aways with a slap on the wrist. Ironically she is exited from the situation pretty much unscathed. In, what, some weeks, she managed to get all the prison girls twisted around her little finger and she probably is capable of using her charms and manipulative nature on adults. So maybe not a break-out, but I really could see her manipulating her way into special privilegies. The ending was pretty ominous on that regard.

Tbh this manga it's pretty much one of my favorites regarding the yuri generes AND in general. It has a feel that distinguishes it from all the others.

P.S. I probably posted a ramble longer than yours.

    DAMN G!
I'm pretty impressed you managed to write a ramble that could beat mine - in terms of length.
I agree with most, if not practically all of what you said.
The only thing I can see little differences on is Ayeon: Instead of her being a completely useless character, I think she was more a connection or link into our (the readers) experience of how the story played out. It was pretty essential, even in the subtleties that Ayeon as a character existed. For example, Ayeon's and Dahye's families being quite close put into perspective for Minhye how nasty her little sister could be, in the fact that she would cross a line in bullying Ayeon. For Yeonhwa and her character development, she was pretty important too - Ayeon is seen to be this teacher's pet catholic girl who's bullied because she's nerdy and plain. While, in a manipulative sense, it's much easier to manipulate someone who's mentally weaker than others, whereas we know Ayeon to actually be pretty stubborn. She eventually doesn't take the shit from the bullies and stands up for herself. Yeonhwa has unintentionally put this confidence into Ayeon, which isn't an unusual development in itself but is DIFFERENT from the type of personality that might be easier to break down. Yoonseo being a clear example of this personality type.
There are, I think, a few stages to how Yeonhwa develops throughout the story:
At first, we see her to be a pretty normal girl, to be honest. This is before we realise her scheming side, which gradually grows more intense as the story goes on. BUT, sorting after Ayeon, we see she realises quite a NORMAL human side to her. She realises that she'll normally take anything she wants from people - as with her sister. This isn't the case with Ayeon. She's careful around Ayeon and experiences the embarrassment and giddiness of liking someone as do many in normal, healthy relationships. This is obviously not the case AFTER the truth comes out about why her sister ran away, and when she snaps, however, it does show that Ayeon could have possibly changed something in her if she only wasn't so early corrupt. Ayeon is also an essential character in realising - again, as the reader - that Yeonhwa is very quick to drop people she 'cares' for. She twists situations to gain fake approval and for things to go her way.
For these reasons, I DO like Ayeon - but she's not a favourite.

I VERY MUCH AGREE THOUGH! This is a considerably amazing manga, regardless of genre. It's up there with my favourite - Out of control / Never understand. I highly recommend that if you haven't read it <3

Mmmm, I see where are you coming from regarding Ayeon. She is in a position of vulnerability regarding her bullies and she isn't capable of standing up for herself, but she is a lot less susceptible to corruption.
And I agree that she is a very important characters for the reader because thanks to her we see a different side to Yeohwa ( the more charming side).

Regarding the way Yeohwa behaves with Ayeon I found very difficult to separate what was "real" from what Yeohwa faked to get her way. I found the chapters where Yeohwa was with Ayeon ( es: their little holiday ) very satisfying emotionally because it really seemed the Yeohwa was changing for Ayeon.
I have to say that my hopes for that were quickly dashed.
Still If you say that she could have changed, I wonder what it was that corrupted her.

And what do you think SOhwa was referring to when she though "I guess it's never completely over"?.

Out of control/ Never Understand it's DEFINITELY one of my favorite manhwa even if it was VERY painful to read ( that author really loves to make her characters suffer). It's got beautiful drawings and a killer story ( literally; I was grossly sobbing in the last chapters). Now and then I'm STILL checking the author page hoping for a new story or more extra chapters of Out of Control.
Another pretty atypical manga I suggest it's That Summer of Kim Hyun ( even if the traslation(mahwa it's in hiatus).

    BigWangBoi March 17, 2018 1:00 pm

Now that's it's been nearly two weeks since I've read this story, I'm not clear on what Sowha meant by "I guess it's never completely over". It could mean that, even though Yeohwa is gone, people will still remain controlled by what she did - herself and Dahye. Or that she doesn't think her sister will change just because she's locked away. Something like that probably.

And I'm so glad you like Out of Control / Never Understand ! I recently re-read it for the third time and it's still a massive influence on how I like stories to be told. I'm pretty sure it was one of the first manhwa I ever read, and although I look back now and it has it's silly moments that I appreciated more when I FIRST read it, It's still amazing.

Except you don't get thrown to prison by bullying? I know you hate her, but really Ayeon did not suffer as much as Sowha and Dayhe. Yes, she did get bullied but she seemed to know how to take care of herself. In the aftermath, she looked as if she had fought recovery after the truth. Meanwhile, Dayhe still gets trauma everynight.

i have to agree with you on what the albino chick she did get what she deserves however i also think that dayhe and her older sister both need to be taken out back and beaten for all the fucked up shit both of them pulled as well and the school and schools like the one depicted on this should all be burned to the ground with the teachers inside because any school that just turns a blind eye to repeated assaults by the same group of people over and over again and does nothing does not need to be around period and honestly this story as well as Serenade (keum Kyesoo) both just piss me off at a core level . mainly because during Jr high and high school i had 2 friends that tried to kill themselves due to bullies at school that even after telling the school over and over again did nothing to prevent further attacks from happening and even one of my friends was beaten so bad she spent more than a month out of school the school still did nothing even though the group that attacked her was caught on camera attacking her
