At the end of the red thread quest, one of them had to give up their memories and it was decided that Kihoon would do so. Yeon wanted him to be free from the trauma and be happy. Itâs been 7 years since then with his memories lost and they are just meeting again :)
After they finished the quests and got their memories back through that long flashback, they were given the option to either retain or forget them, Yeon wanted to keep his memories but asked Kihoon to forget him, so Kihoon granted his wish and forgot everything, the "new life" is a timeskip of 7 years after that
