interesting that jaehyuk doesn’t seem to understand the severity of homophobia (or care about it at all, at least) and doesn’t understand why garam would be scared, when jaehyuk was literally homophobic toward garam at the beginning. which i don’t recall being addressed but idk.
I kinda want Garam to point out his previous homophobic behavior sometime during this angst era of theirs (or maybe the shared gay friend they have to tell him the dangers of being open and then him being reminded of his own behavior). I kept hoping he would reach out to the gay friend for advice or opinion but instead Jaehyuk keeps shouting at Garam and giving ultimatums. I do think there’s a better way about this rather than completely separating like Garam is trying to do, but wow it’s also impossible to deny the glaring ignorance of Jaehyuk in this situation
he understands it that's why he's willing to give up friendship and family for their relationship, he doesn't understand what Garam feels because they don't communicate and he proceeds to leave? But that's also okay, having time to think alone is also good but not addressing the underlying issue for his actions is not. Also Jaehyuk being homophobic is a well-known fact here, but the thing is he actually did change to be a better person overall than just being an asshole.
I wish Garam and Jaehyuk will actually go to a professional for Garam's trauma tho.
Definitely agree on them needing to talk to a professional, however it’s questionable if they even could consider as it is South Korea, therapy isn’t considered to be an acceptable thing to begin with, but then also going to therapy for the experiences you’ve had being queer? Safety might be a concern for Garam.
Additionally, automatically cutting off your shared social support systems for a relationship without talking together with your partner about if that’s best for the both of you is not the way. Perhaps that is as you said, him trying to make up for it, but I personally think it’s going overboard considering the timeline of their relationship. Plus, just because Jaehyuk’s willing to cut off people doesn’t mean he can assume that Garam is ready or even wants to cut people off. He also should have taken the time to discuss with Garam how they want to come out to certain people and when, additionally where. Not just doing it out of his own assumptions that it’s fine with him so it must be fine with Garam.
Granted, all of these convos should have happened while they were at home without Garam running away every chance he can get lol, but alas. My preference would have been Jaehyuk noticing how he wants to be out with their friends and then taking that convo home to talk about it instead of just trying to come out without warning.
Understandable but either way I don't quite like how the story handled Garam and Jaehyuk overcoming problems in their relationship, I feel like some situation here could be better or at least prevented. Either way this arc will probably make their relationship stronger.
I definitely do agree that homophobia is really strong on SK tho, like wtf literally saw most korean people saying XLOV is a disgrace, bad influence, weird, and that they should go back on their country. It's such a weird thing for a "developed country", what also bothers me is them being "unfamiliar" with it just seems to justify the hate in the perspective of some people (a person from mangago said this to me, ironically), it sucks.
Absolutely, exactly how you said it. The author would have done the story more justice by resolving/mentioning the homophobic bullying with Jaehyuk earlier in their relationship (perhaps Garam telling him when they’re about to get together how that bothered/hurt him and to refrain from such comments in the future) so that this type of argument that they’re currently having now would have had more nuance + dealt with in a more healthy way but oh well lol, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised after how many bl’s I’ve read. You’d think we’d get used to it by now since they don’t ever seem to write these moment differently.
Frrrr I hate it when people use unfamiliar as a reason to hate on smth like damn is google not there??? Naver??? People really be refusing to do their own research and the lack of media literacy is wild. Y’all just gonna hate on some divas who perform like crazy just bc you haven’t seen this level of cunt before??
in the novel, most of the time that ruby cries (especially at the start), we know through her narration that she’s acting… like she cries on purpose so that everyone around her thinks she’s dumb and weak, and therefore not a threat. but even if she weren’t acting, why does it bother everyone that she cries, in my opinion, not even that often? like, people cry, especially when they’re in such bad situations. chill.
