I binged read the whole thing...before starting I saw your comment and kinda kept it in mind throughout the story. Through their all hardships how the undereye details darken or lighten depended. Also the author didn't remove it at the end and let the detail be, maybe to represent the how dark circles just permanently stays. Honestly whatever they been through I feel the heavy eyebags are justified
