Um can someone explain to me what the duke exactly meant about the whole "elopement" thing? Or what the whole "elopement" thing even was? Like, her views and his reaction etc? (I couldn't really really understand what the reason for the breakup(?) was TvT)
The elopement thing I think with them being nobles would mean a marriage of love instead of convenience.
So her confessing to the duke was probably him testing her cause he doesn’t believe she would say she loved the duke cause of her beliefs which she’s kinda open about that being she doesn’t really love anyone/she doesn’t need love in a marriage/and that nobles always get married without love
the duke also heard her at the start of the series complaining to her friend that she doesn’t really believe in marriage for love and that all she wants is money so the duke thinks she’s only saying she loves him cause he’s let her known before that he believes in love so he thinks she’s using his feelings towards her against him.
But that’s what I took from that scene I hope I’m not wrong lol

Yeah basically and I think for her she thinks he was just playing with her feelings so both of them just think the other has no genuine feelings for one another. Personally I don’t really think they are in love right now and also they are probably gonna drag the miscommunication story for a big part of the story at the moment

Couldn't he just not get himself involved with her when he already knew what her opinions were regarding the marriage of not falling in love and only marrying for money? When he already knew what her thought process was, why did he even bother to pay attention to her and help with her broken engagement? Even after that meeting with her, creating these moments of what we felt like was a chemistry or intimacy, only then to just break all hopes she ever had of securing a good marriage? Whether it started on the wrong foot, but now she clearly had feelings for him, only now did he have to break her hopes. I don't know, it just felt too weird and petty of him to do that.
