around chalter 40 and i've never ever before felt this intense feeling of dread in my stomach knowing i'm approaching the end of the story. i'm literally stalling reading this just because i don't want it to end. god i love everything about this story and these characters so much that i wanna savour it for as long as i can ITS SO FUCKING PEAK
i think this is the perfect example of unnecessarily pushing the 'psycho' trope onto a character just because he's your stereotypical yaoi top who's the lonely depressed son of a rich family. the moments where taeshin is affectionate with wonwoo seem so genuine and real, like his childlike innocence, lack of knowledge about love and relationships, or his naivety when he asks to be both wonwoo's lover and sibling just to be closer to him. these moments of sincerity are all conveyed very genuinely, in massive contrast to his psycho moments like wanting to "ruin him". those moments are abrupt, unevenly placed, start too late and end too quickly without managing to deliver or impact the reader. they're out of place with the pace of the story, or even where taeshin's character seems to be headed. this story would've been much better with taeshin just being someone who's never experienced love before, but meeting wonwoo made him devote his whole heart to the right person. that doesn't seem lacklustre at all, not every story needs to angsty and traumatic.
for a story that earlier seemed to be defying cliche tropes and stereotypes, this picturesque ending is a little disappointing. what i don't get is why was there all that imagery about MC killing the praying mantis and insect metaphors, when in the end she didn't kill him because "she's human" ? i guess you could argue that that IS the point. she proved she was fundamentally different from him since she chose not to act on her primal desires. she admitted to the detective that she WANTED to kill someone, but chose humanity above it. i personally find that a little lame, does somebody who stole the humanity of you and multiple other people still deserve to have their humanity intact? it's a moral debate at the end of the day. if anyone has any other cool interpretations please feel free to yap!
