It does. Work that way. The genes that define gender are XY for male and XX for female. between a male and a female there are 4 possible outcomes XX, XY, XX, XY so there is a 50% chance of a male 50% chance of a female.
This is fictions and is impossible in real life but using the same standards between a male and a male the 4 options would be XX, XY, XY, YY. YY is impossible and would just lead to failure. So it would technically be possible for a female to come from a male. This wouldnt be the same if it was female and female because there are no Y chromosomes so all 4 outcomes would be female. A male would be impossible. At least that's my understanding
