The bark doesn't look "branched", and even if it was, Ciel's name isn't there, so it would most likely be the line for Ciel. Also, there's no need for a twin - even if there was one. Our Ciel has no reason whatsoever to pretend to be his twin, or to hide the fact that he had one. No one else in his family has even mentioned that he had a brother (they've mentioned his parents though). Elisabeth and her brother would definitely have mentioned it (if not Ciel's aunt), and so would have his father's German friend.
I don't think there's a twin, and I'd be disappointed if there was (as there was no need for one it would just seem lazy to me). Who shot at Soma? I don't know, but Ciel isn't the only person he knows in England (the rest of his school friends, the S4, even Elizabeth (though I don't think it's her)).
Have you read the twin theory? If not, you should. There's plenty of good evidence for it. As for a need, that's yet to be determined. We don't know why Ciel would lie about it, but there could be (and probably is) a good reason. Frankly, the evidence is so strong I would be surprised if there wasn't a twin.

and fakeCiel took up the Ciel name bcoz that twin was the eldest, the heir, the strong and charismatic one coz fakeCiel was shy, sickly and weak. just what I understand from the theory stuff.
I have read it, still don't buy it - the "evidence" isn't strong (it also uses evidence from the anime instead of just the manga, and we all know that the anime doesn't really follow the manga). If the aunt and Lizzie didn't mention it because it was too painful, they'd never mention his parents either. Even if "realCiel" was the heir, "fakeCiel" wouldn't need to pretend to be him, he's dead, "fakeCiel" is now the uncontested heir... also, it can't be the "twin" who shot at Soma - he died already (if he ever existed).
It is branched my friend. If the family only has 1 child the branch would turn inward just like it did to Claudia Phantomhive and to Vincent Phantomhive
This is just my opinion tho, why this Ciel is pretending to be his twin brother I guess he is safe and alive untill now because they killed his twin as a sacrifice in an evil ceremony and because of his twin blood he can make a contract with Sebastian. So, I guess he thinks that it should be Ciel who is alive, not him since he can survive untill now is actually by the sacrificed of his twin even he himself hate this fact.
if there is no twin, just why should he asked Sebastian to hide his asthma from Lizzy when he is sick when they were on the ship with those zombies (It would be in the movie this year), that is because Ciel's twin has weak body than Ciel and he has asthma. Actually we can see that they have difference on their hair style when they were child, they also has different personality like Ciel is more sociable than his twin. Just when you read the manga, you can feel their differences and so hints like plates, toys, why he forgot about lizzy, etc, as long as you believe with the twin theory I guess lol.
Those are just my opinion tho, I don't care whether people believe on the twin theory or not that is your own choice and how you enjoy the manga, because they who believe the theory and not has different style of enjoying the manga right. Just wait until sensei reveals all of the mysteries ( *´︶`*)
note. I believe that Ciel who is with us now is not the real Ciel, but the twin.
