this story just went off rails with this flashback. instead of being a story about a narcissistic and abusive man, i feel like the author is trying to make him look more sympathetic, but the backstory is so over dramatic and convoluted. atp i just wanna know what happened to seungmin

The story isn't trying to make dohun look better, the reason why he seems to crazy and unreasonable at the beginning is because we are reading from yuwons perspective, he's an unreliable narrator and has an issue with blaming everyone else for his misery causing his memories to warp and twist into a narrative that makes him seem like a perfect victim, yes he is a victim in man ways but he's not as reasonable as he makes himself seem either. Dohun is not innocent either, but his actions do have reason behind them, that's explained in his POV which is only being translated recently. We basically get the entire truth about the story and looking back there was alot of weird inconsistencies in yuwons POV, seungmin is not a good guy, and im pretty sure he is dead bc of what he did. Nobody in this story is completely wrong or justified, which is why it's such an interesting read, just look deeper and I promise you'll understand

The story starts off in the present time when yuwon and dohun have been living together for a while, it seems violent and insane bc obv it is but it's more understandable when it gives you the proper backstory as to how they got there. After the opening scene we go back all the way to when dohun (ml) first reappeared in from of yuwon (mc), we watch the story from yuwons perspective, and for alot of those chapters we are in the dark about their history, why dohun acts the way he does, and how dohun went from being poor without a family to the son of a rich ceo. We are given the impression that dohun is trying to trap and control yuwon into loving him, that yuwon stopped dohuns bullies in highschool and then found out dohun was a crazy murderer. Hence why he's so scared to set him off and have him kill the people around him, in this case it was seungmin. He goes crazy after living with dohun because he's in the dark about a lot of things and feels like he's being ostracized by dohun, and blames him for his social life and office life getting worse than it already was. If you look closely even from the beginning you can tell yuwon has an insane victim complex, however this is made clearer in the second season where they dive into yuwon and dohuns highschool days. Yuwon met dohun when he was small, and their first encounter was when yuwon protected dohun from bullies and ended up getting that scar on his face in the process. Yuwon is framed as someone righteous and brave since childhood, because he later protects dohun from his bullies in highschool. However this entire past is still on yuwons perspective, as as he's remembering this we are still in the present time which was the even that occurred in the first chapter. The blow to his head makes his memories correct themselves, and it's revealed that the one getting bullied wasn't dohun, but yuwon. The entire highschool story was half true and half fabrication, it mightve been an attempt in yuwons mind to protect his pride. After we it's revealed yuwon is an unreliable narrator, we jump into dohuns perspective. Yuwon did protect dohun when they first met, but he immediately started blaming dohun for being bullies right after. He states that now he'll get bullied more because he protecting a weak kid, and that he's dirty now and will get scolded for it, he cries and says that he shouldn't have protected him. Dohun had never talked to anyone outside of his family before that, he was a bastard child kept in a basement and only ever interacted with his drug addicted brother and a man from his dad's company. He was convinced yuwon was his destiny, and in that moment decided that he would basically devote his like to yuwon, and asks him to continue blaming him, so that yuwon can live happily. That is why in yuwons perspective dohun is almost a complete villain, he is literally altering his memories to he can continue blaming dohun for everything wrong with his life. Dohuns POV reveals alot of things that I honestly don't want to spoil because theyre actively being revealed, since you skimmed through it makes sense you don't understand but I urge you to read it in full and keep my words in mind, things were a little confusing my first read, but after dohuns POV they made a lot more sense. The storytelling is phenomenal bc u can tell everything was planned from the beginning and nothing is unintentional, so read and analyze tf out of it! You'll have fun

This makes a lot of sense. This isn’t my first psychological horror I’ve read, but it’s definitely the first where I struggle to understand the narration and where the story is headed. I’ve re-read it since my first skimming. I was sleep deprived when I wrote this comment and when I was skimming through it (lol) but after reading-reading it, I still don’t understand? I get what you said about Yuwon being an unreliable narrator, which makes perfect sense as to why the story doesn’t make sense. But the bits and pieces I feel like I should understand I don’t. Honestly I feel lost, especially since others are commenting about Seongmin and how things escalate from there, along with other bits and pieces I feel like I’m missing out on. Your opinion really brought some light into what I was thinking and definitely helped me understand the characters and story more. I honestly didn’t see Yuwon as the type of character to play the victim card, since the author paints him as one in his own POV. And what you said about Dohun to made sense. But honestly still confusing because I lowkey feel myself being confused and also in the dark when it comes to Dohun and whether what he says is truthful or not. But thank you, your comment was actually very helpful to my understanding of the story. Also I tend to take these story’s at face value and don’t really think much about them. I like the thrill and manipulation that happens along with the psychological aspect of the story and how it can mess with the readers by also making them feel loss and feel emotions even though it’s fiction. Idk I’m lowkey bad at exposing since I get lost in my thought a lot but this for sure helped me!
