maybe to give mangaka a break. There's so many mangaka who get very very sick (or die) because the weekly grind is way too much. Another reason why you see this happen with Japan vs US (comics don't have the same super tight deadline as manga, especially weekly). I hate waiting but I'd rather my author survives. And it's too late for me to step back and marinate before resuming reading
One manga I follow that now releases every couple of months is World Trigger. Ashira-sensei got so sick we thought he would die or be paralyzed. Glad he lives, even if he's still in constant pain but he chose to continue his work.
