It was already heavily implicated in the manhwa that MC had been through something terrible in the past. I read the novel and I hope manhwa won't shorten the story too much. MC has a PTSD after a prolonged trauma in his youth, which from a psychological point of view means it is harder to overcome because of his young age back then and a long exposure. Thus, I plea don't cuss him too hard because he is doing really well for what he's been through. Also, there is a seriuos lack of communication and ML is paying the price for taking Hyoseop for granted. As it is frustraiting to watch I think it's perfectly understandable than when faced with threath that is connected to his biggest fear MC chose to tug his tail and run. The other option would be to fight but...SS-class? He's not suicidal.
P.S. ppl say it was like a filler but I believe that grandpa arc and village arc were super important for building a sense of stable bonds and self-worth in Hyoseop. He got what he did not have as a child.
