Them being inspired by #thatship isnt true, its basically just fanon. The author has shared their inspirations for the characters (they explicitly said they were never inspired by REAL people), through their social media and interviews and not once did they mention kpop
The plot relies heavily on subtext to explain korean history. Readers brush off Incheol’s actions but in the context of Korean history, urban redevelopment (jaegaebal) is notoriously violent and corrupt. And is a massive backbone for like a TON of korean noir films, and it is in the news daily as a massive source of talking points and pressure in presidential elections.
The story isn't trying to be pretentious or unclear; it just relies heavily on subtext to explain Korean history that international readers usually miss. My critique is the pacing though imo.
I mean incheol is being paid to gentrify entire neighborhoods, and force vulnerable people out even if that means getting his hands dirty. He's trying to do this with Pyeongwha, coerce him with his body and when that doesn't work it results to blackmail. (The only reason he may feel any semblance of responsibility and "care" for pyeongwha is because his own past in Pyeongwhas life forces him to take an inkling of self reflection and accountability towards the downward spiral of Pyeongwhas life. And even then his role as a bojogwan/political aide, won't let him turn ts into a public scandal by getting police involved or suing Pyeongwha because if it becomes a public scandal, and lee myung sun loses public interest, it means he's incompetent and he will get his ass fired.. )
They're both just very jaded people

And u can look up the 2009 yongsan disasters, yongseok thugs, and Korean additional contribution traps. To put into perspective how layered it is politically. :3
((In chapter 9 when incheol was at the committee meaning. For context in South Korea, real estate is the absolute primary way to build wealth. Because of this, speculative urbanization is rampant. Many middle-class property owners actively petition for their neighborhoods to be designated as jaegaebal zones because it means their property values will skyrocket once the luxury high-rises are built. The catch is even that doesn't always work in their favors. Because the cost to even own that new luxury apartment is additional out of pocket expense they didn't know about until after. This leaves only the wealthy/upper middle class to be able to buy out those neighborhoods. The people who get displaced are usually the renters and the poorest owner-occupiers, aka people like Pyeongwha. Who can't afford to buy back into the newly built high-rises. And the money given to them by the government isn't enough to start a new business outside of their neighborhoods.
This is just to put into perspective that Incheol is willingly doing this, he knows all of this but his head is too far up his ass to care about how fucked up the consequences of his motives/actions are lol.)
Y'all they were never inspired by woosan from ateez. The author has given like multiple interviews on the creative decisions over their work and not once did they mention ateez or kpop. Even so, pyeongwha looks so similar to neil mccormick from mysterious skins (a movie that has heavy parallels to this manwha and pyeongwhas character, and its one of the poster in pyeongwhas room).
I cringe so badly when i see those woosan comments cuz im 99.9% sure it started from a tweet comparing the two and then the fandom ran with it like its canon
I need to find a new hobby
Feminine/pretty, short seme who has a growth spurt and becomes a chad and fucks their older uke?
