Basically, the ML was taken to the scene of the crime where he had admitted to pushing his cousin. There's a bit of a search party and finally when they found the ML's cousin, there's a revelation to a dead cat that the ML had witnessed dying when he was a small boy (it was previously flashbacked in the earlier chapters), hence when the ML called his cousin "Kitty". The cousin and the cat are served similarly; both dead and barren.

coming back to the manga: The fact that they show the ML is hated by his mom because there's something wrong with him and her eventually wanting to kill him every chance she got was what confused me.
