His back history does not justify his action yes but it explains why he is like that in the future. A child that never received love would not be able to love anyone else other than themselves. It explains why he is such a jerk in the future. The author is trying to show no person is born bad but they can grow up to be one depending on the parents.

late to this but basically the kids who died after the first dead boy were bullies who took the boy's clothes, which is why he was found naked in the snow (might have knocked him out and stripped him, leading to his death). the boy became a ghost and possessed his clothes like you said. the first bully who died had taken the shoes - so he "ran" into a car. the second took the pants - so he "tripped" and fell out the window. the third took the coat and the fourth took the scarf and shirt.
